RUPERT, ID, October 30, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Richard Hansen has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Backed by decades of anthropological expertise, Dr. Hansen excels as the founder and president of the Foundation for Anthropological Research & Environmental Studies (FARES), which focuses on the scientific investigation, conservation, and responsible development of the unique biodiversity and cultural heritage of the Mirador-Calakmul Karst Basin in Guatemala and southern Campeche, Mexico. For over 40 years, he has explored the remote region of Guatemala, an area spanning 1.6 million acres. In this capacity, he has utilized Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technology, which sees through the dense jungle canopy to reveal structures and terrain underneath. Over the years, this technology has uncovered over 964 settlements, forming 417 ancient cities, towns, and villages. As director of the Mirador Basin Research and Conservation Programs, Dr. Hansen addresses these societies' origins, cultural dynamics, and eventual demographic collapse.

In conjunction with his work on the Mirador-Calakmul Basin, Dr. Hansen has previously shared his knowledge with others as an adjunct professor of anthropology in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Utah and is now an affiliate professor of anthropology at Idaho State University. Likewise, he gained valuable expertise as a level four research scientist with the University of California, Los Angeles' Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics.

An expert in his field, Dr. Hansen holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Archaeology and Spanish and a Master of Science in anthropology from Brigham Young University. Subsequently, he expanded his professional knowledge by completing a PhD in archaeology from the University of California, Los Angeles. In conjunction with his professional and educational endeavors, Dr. Hansen has contributed to his community as a committee member of the Boy Scouts of America, where he served as a scoutmaster for many years.

Due to his knowledge, Dr. Hansen has had his work featured in over 39 film documentaries, including National Geographic, Discovery, CNN, and Learning Channel specials, and on channels and shows worldwide, such as 60 Minutes Australia, ABC's 20/20, the BBC of London, TV Azteca, and Russia 1 Television. He was also the principal consultant for Mel Gibson's "Apocalypto" and CBS "Survivor" and worked with Morgan Freeman on National Geographic's "The Story of God." While his career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Hansen takes the most pride in bringing international attention to the Mirador-Calakmul Karst Basin, revealing scientific evidences about Maya society that were previously untold, raising seven children, and his collaborations with his distinguished Guatemalan staff, workmen, and community members. He was named as "one of 24 individuals that changed Latin America by the Latin Trade magazine, He was awarded the highest civilian award possible in Guatemala with the Order of the Quetzal, Gran Cruz, and the Order of the Monja Blanca by the Guatemalan Ministry of Defense.

Dr. Hansen's career has been marked by hard work and dedication, but he attributes much of his success to his wife's steadfast support. She raised their seven children while they lived in the jungles of Guatemala, a testament to their shared commitment to his work. Looking ahead, Dr. Hansen hopes to help the Guatemalan government establish a wilderness area as a cultural and natural sanctuary. Despite the challenges of maintaining his pursuits, he is determined to enable future scholars to carry on his work.
