Ms. Lew's leadership at Reveal Design Group is characterized by a hands-on approach to training younger team members, emphasizing the importance of technical knowledge and effective communication with electricians to troubleshoot and resolve field issues efficiently.
Prior to her tenure at Reveal Design Group, Ms. Lew honed her lighting skills in both professional theatre and museums for over a decade, starting with a lighting internship at the Smithsonian American Art Museum while an undergraduate student that culminated several years later with a professional appointment as the resident Gallery Lighting Designer for the National Museum of the American Indian. In addition, Ms. Lew continued to pursue her passion for theatrical design by as a recipient of the Allen Lee Hughes Lighting Fellowship at Arena Stage, the pillar of regional theatre for new American work, and serving as an assistant lighting designer for the Shakespeare Theatre Company, one of the leading theatre companies of classical works in the United States. Concurrently, Ms. Lew also freelanced as the lighting, set designer and painter for Banished? Productions, an independent theatre company based in Washington, D.C. specializing in site specific original work and interpretation of dramatic and literary texts. Upon relocating to New York City, Ms. Lew further developed her architectural design skills through positions as a junior lighting designer at Domingo Gonzalez Associates and Focus Lighting Inc.
Ms. Lew's expertise is recognized through her active participation in industry-related organizations such as the New York section of the Illuminating Engineering Society and the Designers Lighting Forum of New York, along with her past membership in the American Association of Museums. These affiliations underscore her commitment to staying abreast of industry trends and contributing to the broader professional community.
Ms. Lew's academic background forms the foundation of her successful career. She received a Bachelor of Arts in art history with a minor in theatrical design from Randolph College (formerly Randolph-Macon Woman's College) in 2000. Then in 2003, Ms. Lew earned her Master of Fine Arts in theatrical lighting and set design from Illinois State University. She attributes much of her success to using active listening to build strong client relationships and deliver projects that exceed expectations.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Ms. Lew is actively involved in civic associations and has been recognized for her contributions to the field with several awards including a MUSE Design Award in 2020, being named a Boutique 18 honoree by Boutique Design in 2015, and multiple accolades from the Illuminating Engineering Society of New York, including a Citation Award, Lumen Award, and Cooper Source Award.
In her personal life, Ms. Lew finds joy in cooking, studying plants and herbs, gardening, surfing, and music. These hobbies offer her a creative outlet outside of her professional work. Looking ahead, Ms. Lew is committed to elevating senior designers within her team to ensure they are prepared to lead the next generation of industry innovators.
