She is currently a medical epidemiologist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, where she studies the causes, distributions, and control of diseases in human populations, particularly in the fields of epidemiology, genetics, internal medicine, and pediatrics. Dr. Mili's career at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been marked by several key roles. Since 2017, she has served as a mentor in epidemiology and surveillance within the Division of Global HIV and Tuberculosis. Additionally, she has been a senior medical epidemiologist in the same division since 2016. Prior to these roles, she spent seven years as a medical epidemiologist in the Division of Blood Disorders, where she also mentored professional trainees in epidemiology and biostatistics. Her teaching experience has extended to academia as well, having lectured in the 1990s at the Morehouse School of Medicine and at Emory University.
Dr. Mili obtained a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Geneva in 1981. She furthered her education with a Master of Public Health in epidemiology from the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University in 1989, followed by a PhD in epidemiology from Laney Graduate School at Emory University in 1997. Her postdoctoral fellowship with the Epidemic Intelligence Service at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from 1989 to 1991 provided her with invaluable experience that has greatly contributed to her success. In addition to her extensive training, she attributes her success to hard work, commitment, collaboration, and passion for her field.
Throughout her career, Dr. Mili has been recognized for her contributions to epidemiology, receiving both the Excellence in Epidemiology – Domestic and the Excellence in Emergency Response Toby Merlin Award – Domestic awards from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2021. She was also acknowledged with an Early Career Author Award from the Research Triangle Institute in 2004.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Dr. Mili enjoys a variety of personal interests that enrich her life. She finds joy in reading, music, exploring family genealogy, biking, swimming, and cooking, and she is active with civic-minded organizations like American Humane Society, National Public Radio, and some French-speaking associations. As she approaches the later stages of her career, she remains determined to leave a lasting impact in her field.
