LOS ANGELES, CA, November 12, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Nasreen Haroon was selected by Marquis Who's Who for a prominent feature in the Southern California Edition of The Wall Street Journal, published on November 7, 2024.
At the age of 13, Nasreen Haroon discovered her passion for artistic expression through painting. Growing up in Pakistan, she attended a Catholic convent school where, after regular classes, she immersed herself in oil painting sessions led by one of the school's nuns. Ms. Haroon's innate talent and genuine love for nature impressed her teacher, and her father encouraged her to take painting seriously.
After graduating high school, Ms. Haroon pursued higher education at St. Joseph's College for Women in Karachi, Pakistan. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, philosophy and history. Following this accomplishment, she immigrated to the United States in 1980, where she embarked on a multifaceted career while honing her artistic skills. Ms. Haroon's early experiences with painting laid the foundation for a remarkable artistic career, which has spanned over three decades. Her unique oil paintings captivate viewers, interpreting natural landscapes and encapsulating the organic beauty of the world through abstract art.
Before dedicating herself to art full-time, from 1983 to 1992, Ms. Haroon worked as an interior designer at the renowned Shangri-La Hotel in Santa Monica, California, an iconic art deco building frequented by celebrities. Since then, she has exhibited her oil paintings globally, gracing a number of galleries, venues and institutions. Notable locations include the Cultural Palace Museum in Sharjah, the Islamic Art Museum in Dubai, the Florence Biennale and many U.S. embassies worldwide.
In 2007, Ms. Haroon was appointed as a cultural envoy to the United Arab Emirates, where she conducted master art classes and exhibited 24 landscape paintings sponsored by the U.S. embassy. She also represented the United States as an American Artist Abroad in Algeria in 2008, engaging in children's art workshops and overseeing the creation of a mural for SOS Battered Women's Shelter. Beyond her art, Ms. Haroon's eloquence led her to teach master classes at the Academy of Fine Arts and the Museum of Fine Arts.
Ms. Haroon appeared in radio and television interviews, including "The God Squad," a program discussing social and political issues from a perspective of faith. Her lectures at institutions, such as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Algerian National Library, further showcased her expertise.
As a globally recognized speaker, Ms. Haroon champions cultural diversity, ethnicity and religion. Drawing from her personal experiences as a Muslim American, she advocates for innovative and equitable ideas. Her involvement extends to organizations such as the Cornerstone Theater Company, the Muslim-Jewish Dialogue, and the Pakistan Arts Council of the University of Southern California Pacific Asia Museum. Through her art and advocacy, Ms. Haroon exemplifies the rich tapestry of an interconnected world.
As a testament to her success, Ms. Haroon has received a number of accolades, including a Trailblazer Award from NewGround: A Muslim-Jewish Partnership for Change. As she looks toward the future, she hopes to continue expressing her artistic acumen, as well as lecturing and serving as a mentor on behalf of others.
