Well-regarded for her expertise in the areas of business analysis, payments and settlements, custody, and relations with foreign institutions, Ms. Kassimidou distinguished herself across the span of more than three decades in the financial sector, the vast majority of which she spent working for the National Bank of Greece. During this momentous period, the financial landscape of Europe was reshaped to meet the aspirations of the single Euro payments area, for which Ms. Kassimidou was frequently called upon to serve in various project management roles. Earning distinction in this capacity, she would participate in virtually all major European committees regarding the subject, where she became recognized as an expert in not only Greek Payments & Settlement policy but also at the Paneuropean level.
Beginning at the National Bank of Greece in 1981, Ms. Kassimidou went on to advance through a number of leadership positions. Her work as a systems analyst set her on the path toward acquiring deeper knowledge of the procedures and functions of many complex financial principles, facilitating her project management work and empowering her to properly leverage emerging technologies in the realm of smart cards, mobile and virtual banking. Ultimately, she was named as the head of payment systems and relations with banks in Greece at a pivotal juncture, just as the new Euro currency was becoming widespread.
From this vantage point, Ms. Kassimidou cooperated fruitfully with various other banks within Greece, designing systems to outsource the payments of smaller financial institutions and contribute further to the interoperability of systems at the Paneuropean level. Additionally, during a meeting with the central committee of the European Banking Federation, she helped spearhead the implementation of the International Bank Account Number (IBAN), which became the standard method of automating monetary transfers worldwide. Following her departure from the National Bank of Greece in 2012, Ms. Kassimidou served as an external consultant for the Hellenic Economic & Social Committee until 2017.
In recent years, Ms. Kassimidou has embarked on a separate career path, serving as a consultant and coach. Drawing on numerous methodologies, her approach is deeply rooted in listening to the needs of her clients. Over the course of her professional journey, both as an economist and psychotherapist, she has been most proud of her ability to help others and lead them toward self-discovery and successful career performance and /or changes. Additionally, she serves as a Greek language teacher at St. Athanasios Church in Paramus and at the Metropolitan Cathedral of St John the Theologian in Tenafly, New Jersey.
Ms. Kassimidou completed three years of coursework at the Law School in Greece besides earning a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Science in economics from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She also obtained certification in a number of economic, negotiation, pedagogical and psychotherapeutic techniques throughout the span of her career. Her education has been pivotal in equipping her with the knowledge and analytical skills necessary for her success; she further attributes her achievements to her passion for her work, which has been a guiding principle throughout her career.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Ms. Kassimidou leads a fulfilling personal life marked by diverse interests including reading, dancing, photography, and cooking. Looking ahead, she aspires to return to the financial sector for consulting work while continuing her psychotherapeutic practice. Additionally, she harbors ambitions of authoring a book, reflecting her desire to share her insights and experiences with a broader audience.
