Rene A. Ronquillo Recognized for Excellence in the Field of Human Resources

A human resource professional with over 20 years of experience across the public and private sectors, Mr. Ronquillo has distinguished himself as the Director of Operations for the Dallas Independent School District Police Department. Serving and protecting nearly 140,000 students and more than 20,000 staff members across 240 schools, the department is a pillar of its district and aims to increase engagement with students, teachers and parents through professional development training and social media outreach.

In his role with the police department, Mr. Ronquillo has several vital responsibilities. He assists the chief of police in the management of daily operations, leads and coordinates the activities of around 300 sworn and non-sworn employees, manages the department's $25 million budget and a $20 million bond initiative for school safety and districtwide security. Ensures all police and security staffing needs are met, implements workforce diversity training, and assists police supervisors to verify that sufficient security personnel were assigned for athletic and districtwide special events.

Known for his professional longevity, Mr. Ronquillo has served the Dallas Independent School District in multiple capacities since 2001. Initially hired as an Operations Executive for the human resources department, he ascended to his current role as Director of Operations in 2005 and has managed the police department's numerous school safety and engagement efforts ever since. He has also taught at public schools in Iowa and Texas, including human resources and business management at The University of Phoenix and Dallas College. He served as an Adjunct Instructor in US Government at The University of Texas-Arlington.

Mr. Ronquillo's performance in the field was born of his academic pursuits, in which he earned bachelor's degrees in American History, Spanish and Education from the University of Dubuque before earning a Master of Public Administration from Texas Christian University. To complement his experience and qualifications, Mr. Ronquillo holds several professional certifications to his name, including a master certificate as a State of Texas peace officer, a State of Texas administrator and secondary education teacher certificate and a school-based law enforcement officer certificate. He is also a certified mental health officer and a graduate of the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas.

To remain aware of developments within the education and law enforcement fields as well as his community, Mr. Ronquillo is a member of several vital organizations, including the Association of Hispanic School Administrators, the National Latino Law Enforcement Organization, and the Dallas School Administrators Association.

In accounting for his professional achievements, Mr. Ronquillo is highly grateful to Manny Vasquez, his mentor and the first chief of police he served under. Mr. Vasquez taught Mr. Ronquillo how to handle a variety of challenging situations and advised him that attending the police academy would endow him with the skills and experience required to become an effective police administrator.
