Leveraging over 35 years of legal success, he initially engaged in private practice for two years before starting a distinguished career with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) as a special agent in 1989.
Garnering an extensive background with the DEA, Dr. Johnson's tenure there spanned over two decades between 1988 and 2009. His first assignment with the federal agency was in Laredo, Texas, where he served from 1989 to 1991. Following this, he was briefly stationed at the DEA Headquarters in Washington, D.C., before undertaking a temporary duty assignment in the chief counsel's office. In 1992, Dr. Johnson was assigned to the Miami Division Office, where he worked until 2000. His final role with the DEA was at the El Paso Intelligence Center in El Paso, Texas, between 2000 and 2005.
Dr. Johnson received a Bachelor of Science from East Tennessee State University and a Doctor of Jurisprudence. Subsequently, he was admitted to practice by the Tennessee Bar Association, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third, Sixth and 11th Circuits, the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, the U.S. Court of International Trade and the Supreme Court of the United States. Moreover, Dr. Johnson holds five doctorate degrees, including a Doctor of Philosophy in clinical pastoral counseling from Colorado Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry from Andersonville Theological Seminary. These academic pursuits have enriched his professional expertise and personal growth.
In addition to his legal career, Dr. Johnson is actively involved in civic activities. He contributes to the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews and volunteers at the Food Café for the Homeless during Thanksgiving at Memorial United Church in Johnson City, Tennessee.
