Having begun his career as a faculty member at San Beda University College of Medicine and the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health from 2009 to 2012, Dr. Amor concurrently taught as a senior lecturer at Topnotch Medical Board Prep until 2012. Following his seven years of residency and fellowship training, he garnered success as a Critical Care Cardiologist at UAB Hospital and Assistant Professor at the UAB School of Medicine between 2019 to 2022.
Dr. Amor graduated Doctor of Medicine from the University of the Philippines (UP) in 2009. He was part of an accelerated seven-year Integrated Liberal Arts and Medicine (INTARMED) program, straight from high school, after he ranked first nationally among over 67,000 applicants in the 2001 UP College Admissions Test (UPCAT). He then spent several years as a medical educator in the country before completing Internal Medicine residency at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey, from 2012 to 2015, serving as the Chief Medical Resident in his final year of residency. Additional educational pursuits to his credit include Cardiology fellowship at North Shore University Hospital between 2015 to 2018, and Critical Care Medicine fellowship at The Mount Sinai Hospital from 2018 to 2019. Dr. Amor has received board certifications in Internal Medicine, General Cardiology, Echocardiography, Nuclear Cardiology and Critical Care Medicine.
Dr. Amor is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American Heart Association. He is also an elected fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Chest Physicians. Dr. Amor's dedication extends beyond his professional commitments through initiatives with the UP Alumni Association in America and the UP Medical Alumni Society in America and by volunteering for medical missions organized by the Philippine Consulate General in New York.
Recognized among the few cardiologists specializing in Critical Care Cardiology, a relatively new specialty that emerged just before the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Amor secured dual training in Cardiology and Critical Care Medicine in the U.S. Additionally, he is the only medical specialist with this combination in the entire Staten Island area.
Throughout his career, Dr. Amor has been recognized for his contributions to medical education and patient care. In 2024, he was honored as Teacher of the Year by Northwell Health and selected as a scholar for the Harvard Macy Program for Educators in Health Professions by Harvard Medical School. Additionally, Dr. Amor received the Robert A. Kreisberg Award for Faculty Development in Medical Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2021.
Dr. Amor attributes his success to connecting with influential mentors, maintaining a positive attitude, demonstrating resilience and embracing teamwork. Initially aspiring to become a priest until age 18, he shifted his focus to medicine after his father was diagnosed with cancer during his high school years. Dr. Amor envisions himself as a trailblazer in critical care cardiology. He aims to lead research and develop technologies that reduce morbidity and mortality among patients with cardiogenic shock.
