Her innovative approach includes the use of Tulsa Pro, a robotic tool within an MRI scanner, to create precise treatment plans that aim to preserve nerves and muscles, reducing the risk of incontinence and erectile dysfunction. Additionally, Dr. Bird offers cryosurgery as an alternative ablative technology and performs benign surgeries, such as greenlight laser and transurethral resection of the prostate.
Before joining Urologic Integrated Care, Dr. Bird was a medical doctor at UF Health from 2013 to 2018 and served as an assistant professor of urology and affiliate professor of biomedical engineering at the University of Florida between 2014 and 2018. Her career also included significant contributions at the Veterans Administration Hospital from 2011 to 2012 and as an assistant professor in the department of urology at the University of Miami and Miami Veterans Administration between 2005 and 2010. Throughout her career, Dr. Bird has been involved in research projects on AI, prostate cancer applications, and advanced MRI ratings for ablative applications.
In preparation for his career, Dr. Bird received a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Wisconsin in 2000. She completed general surgery and urologic surgery training at the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine in 2005 under the mentorship of Dr. Richard Williams, whom she credits with providing a well-rounded perspective on patient care and instilling a meticulous approach to oncologic surgery while emphasizing holistic treatment. Additionally, Dr. Bird is board-certified by the American Board of Urology and holds credentials as a GCP ICH refresher through the Citi Program.
Dr. Bird's professional affiliations are extensive. She is a member of the inclusion committee for the southeast section of the American Urological Society and serves as its Florida state representative. She is also on the executive board of the Florida Urological Society and previously chaired Women in Urology in Florida. Dr. Bird's involvement extends to organizations such as the Latina Women's League, the North American Public Health Association, The Women's Caucus and The Men's Caucus.
Besides her work-related endeavors, Dr. Bird's civic contributions have been notable. Since 2016, she has been a mentor and attending physician at the Equal Access Clinic's "Spanish Night" Mobile Clinic at the University of Florida. Her humanitarian efforts include working with Warmakuna Hope in Peru to assist disabled children with urogenital problems and supporting Newberry Christian Community School through educational support and donations.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Bird has published extensively on prostate cancer topics such as epidemiology, testosterone and physiology. She is working on a publication involving AI and has conducted significant research in electrophysiology. Moreover, she continues contributing to academic discourse as a reviewer for scholarly journals like Urology Journals.
During her medical career, Dr. Bird has received several awards, including the Bronze Tobacco Dependence Treatment and Referral Award, and was an American Life Foundation award recipient.
