Dr. Burton is an esteemed professional in mental health and substance abuse counseling. A career marked by a series of significant roles that highlight her expertise in co-occurring counseling and mental health, she has been the owner and operator of her own practice, Central Arkansas Group Counseling, PLLC (Now Arkansas Counseling & Wellness Services) since 2015, providing licensed professional counseling services to patients. Since 2019, Dr. Burton has also been a DOT substance abuse professional through her facility.

Besides her clinical work, Dr. Burton has been instrumental as an assistant professor at John Brown University, where she has been a faculty member since 2020. In this role, she teaches in-person and virtual classes focused on substance abuse evaluations and spearheads committee and board meetings. She is also passionate about supervising new counselors. Leveraging her previous success, Dr. Burton was an adjunct professor at John Brown University from 2018 to 2020.

Dr. Burton's earlier career included serving as a U.S. probation officer with the U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services in the U.S. District Courts from 2011 to 2017. Concurrently, she worked as a psychotherapist in private practice at Pogue Counseling between 2013 and 2016. These roles have collectively contributed to Dr. Burton's comprehensive understanding of mental health and substance abuse issues.

Dr. Burton's academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice from Harding University in 2001, followed by a Master of Science in community counseling at John Brown University in 2013 and a Doctor of Philosophy in counselor education and supervision from the University of the Cumberlands in 2023. Her educational background has been instrumental in her professional achievements and her ability to mentor the next generation of counselors. In addition to her academic credentials, Dr. Burton holds several certifications from the Arkansas Substance Abuse Certification Board.

Throughout her career, Dr. Burton has been actively involved in several industry-related organizations, including the Arkansas Counseling Association, the Arkansas Addiction Professionals Association and the American Counseling Association. She is also the incoming president of the Arkansas Counseling Association and the current president of the Arkansas Addiction Professionals Association. In addition to her work-related endeavors, Dr. Burton is involved in civic activities, including volunteering with the Red Hat Society and various community organizations.

Dr. Burton has made significant contributions to academic literature. She contributes to the Southern Association for Counselor Education and Supervision's SACES Newsletter and co-authored an article for the International Association for Resilience & Trauma Counseling.

Highlighting her accomplishments, Dr. Burton has received numerous awards, including the Rosenthal Award from the Arkansas Association for Counselor Education and Supervision and the Champion Award from the Arkansas Coalition Against Domestic Violence. She attributes much of her success to effective time management and prioritizing tasks that align with her values and passions. This approach has enabled Dr. Burton to maintain productivity and avoid burnout while making meaningful contributions to her field.
