Dr. Whitney is a distinguished professional in the fields of psychology and education. She currently serves as a community faculty member at Metropolitan State University, a position she has held since 2022. She brings a wealth of experience to her role, having previously worked as a school psychologist for Osseo Area Schools from 1995 to 2022.
Dr. Whitney's academic journey is marked by significant achievements that have greatly contributed to her professional success. She earned her Doctor of Education in educational administration and leadership from St. Cloud State University in 2021. Prior to this, she completed an Education Specialist degree and a Master of Education in school psychology from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Her academic foundation was laid with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a minor in humanities from the University of Minnesota in 1984. Complementing her education, she is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist.
Throughout her career, Dr. Whitney has been an active member of several industry-related organizations, including the National Association of School Psychologists and the International School Psychology Association. She is also a recent member of The Woman's Club of Minneapolis. She attributes much of her success to the exceptional individuals she works with. She has formed close partnerships with outstanding special education teachers, dedicated social workers and talented speech-language pathologists.
Throughout her career, Dr. Whitney is most proud of earning her doctorate in educational administration and leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic while working online full time, and along with her husband, caring for her mother, who required around-the-clock assistance. She also takes pride in presenting her doctoral paper during the International School Psychologist Association annual conference in July 2024 which was held in Riga, Latvia.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Dr. Whitney is actively involved in civic-minded organizations. In the recent past, she served as a grant writer and board member for She Rock She Rock, an organization dedicated to empowering girls and women through music education.
Outside of her career, Dr. Whitney enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, learning about different cultures and studying history. She spends half of her time at a home in Portugal. She also loves to play music (bass guitar) with her band, Dream Addict, in the Minneapolis area. Looking ahead, she aims to remain actively engaged in school psychology and contribute as a valuable team member to address the shortage of school psychologists.
