Dr. Roy, a prominent neurosurgeon with over four decades of experience, has significantly contributed to medicine. Before joining Novant, Dr. Roy gained valuable experience through private practice. He also garnered experience as a clinical instructor at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
In preparation for his surgical career, Dr. Roy received a Bachelor of Science in biology from Boston College in 1978, a Doctor of Philosophy in biochemistry from the University of South Alabama in 1984 and a Doctor of Medicine from Tulane University in 1987. Additional educational pursuits to his credit include an internship in General Surgery in 1988 and a residency in Neurosurgery in 1993 both at New York University. This was followed by a fellowship in Neurosurgery at the University of Southern California Los Angeles in 1995. Dr. Roy received board certification through the American Board of Neurological Surgery.
Dr. Roy's dedication to the field is further evidenced by his membership in prestigious organizations like the American Academy of Neurological Surgeons. He is also an elected fellow of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Roy is actively involved in various civic-minded organizations. He supports the Community Care Clinic, contributes to the Novant Health Foundation and supports the Salisbury-Rowan Heart Fund Ball. He also played an instrumental role in constructing the Sacred Heart Wing at a local middle school and is actively involved with Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Catholic School.
In addition to his full-time contributions, Dr. Roy has authored medical literature, including chapters in books and articles in professional journals. He has also delivered presentations at national neurosurgery conferences. Dr. Roy is most notably recognized for his research on free radicals and tissue damage in spinal cord injury.
