Chang with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Chang celebrates many years of experience in his professional network and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Since immigrating to the United States from Hong Kong in 1978, Mr. Chang has established himself as a leading figure in the worlds of architectural design and real estate development. In 1980, he launched an eponymous freelance consultancy and began pursuing contract positions in collaboration with leading architectural and design firms, which he continues to the present day. Mr. Chang's career is underscored by tenures as an architectural design consultant and a work development strategist, working extensively for the past four decades. In this regard, he has worked on public works projects, hotels, educational buildings, airports, hospitals and shopping malls. Notably, he has leveraged his specialization in conceptual development to envision projects from inception to completion while optimizing their efficacy through a business lens. Mr. Chang's expertise is evident through his diversified roles, focusing on multiple types of projects whereas many other design consultants specialize in only one type.
Some of Mr. Chang's appointments include tenures with Anshen & Allen as the director of interior design, and HOK Group Inc. as an interior architecture project designer. He also assumed roles as a design director and project architect for the office of David Elliot Leibowitz, as a design consultant to Fong & Chen Associates, and a project designer and architect for Marquis/Wong & Brocchini Joint Venture for the expansion and redevelopment of the south terminal of the San Francisco International Airport. He also provided showroom and art directions for the fashion company, Michael Simon and Maurice Mallone, and the concept of in-store store for Estee Lauder and Swatch Watch USA, Inc.

Before venturing onto his vocational path, Mr. Chang sought a strong academic foundation. He obtained a Bachelor of Architecture from the Tokyo Design Academy in Japan. After immigrating to the United States, Mr. Chang completed coursework at the California College of the Arts and Crafts. During his studies, he collaborated with his professors on a part-time basis, thereby sparking his interest in freelance architecture.
As a follower of Christ, Mr. Chang credits his achievements in his multi-faceted careers to God-given faith and unwavering passion and undivided focus on his work. Influenced by the philosophies of Louis Kahn, a renowned 20th century American architect, Mr. Chang also attributes his vocational achievements to the influence of several individuals, including Professor Marie Fisher, who unleashed his passion for modern architecture; the partners of Esherick, Homsey, Dodge & Davis, who catapulted his instinct for the direction of the design and planning of any project at early stage; Derrick Parker of Anshen & Allen; and David Leibowitz, founder of David Leibowitz Architects, for their friendship, leadership and trust while he was working in the office and as an outside consultant down the path of his career. Likewise, Mr. Chang gives thanks to such individuals as Jim Rouse, Michael Eisner and Edwin Schlossberg for their support. He is grateful that these individuals gave him the authority to work as a behind-the-scenes outside consultant on projects worldwide, without limit. He also wishes to thank John J. Parmen, who guided and composed his work prospectus and proposals for more than 30 years.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Chang intends to continue offering strategic consulting in architecture design concepts, development strategies, business planning and problem-solving. He also aims to continue presenting tenant market research and analysis for international real estate development companies, landowners, manufacturers, and architectural and planning professionals, as well as private and residential projects for friends, relatives and referrals. Though he has more than 40 years of meaningful projects to his credit, he remains eager to take on new ventures.
