Mr. DeLanis established a distinguished 46-year legal career in which he honed his expertise in business and commercial law, litigation, arbitration and mediation. He began as a law clerk for a State of Tennessee Circuit Judge from 1978 to 1979, followed by Assistant Tennessee Attorney General from 1979 to 1981. He then joined the Baker Donelson law firm, where he served as an associate, partner, shareholder, and senior counsel for four decades before founding DeLanis Law in 2021. His commitment to diligence and preparation have been instrumental in his success, allowing him to navigate complex legal challenges with confidence and precision.
Mr. DeLanis's academic background laid a solid foundation for his professional achievements. After graduating from public school in his hometown of Parma, Ohio, he completed a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude with honors, in government at Dartmouth College in 1975, and earned a Juris Doctorate from Vanderbilt University School of Law in 1978. At Vanderbilt, he was the Business Manager of its Journal of Transnational Law where both his scholarly writings were published.
Mr. DeLanis has been committed to community service. He currently serves on the board of Green Interchange and the advisory board for Blood Assurance of Tennessee. His long-standing involvement with the Nashville Humane Association includes as president, secretary, legal counsel, and current executive committee and board member. Since 2013, he has served on the Davidson County Election Commission with seven terms as its Chair. He is proud that, since 1983, he has been a supporter of Legal Aid and Pro Bono of Middle Tennessee and the Upper Cumberlands, where he chaired a successful fundraising campaign and was President of the Pro Bono Program.
Mr. DeLanis has received numerous accolades for his legal expertise. Outside his professional life, Mr. DeLanis enjoys playing handball, tennis, swimming, working in his yard, traveling, and hiking with his dog. In the coming years, he intends to wind down his practice while continuing public service.
