LOS ANGELES, CA, December 02, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ahmed A. Kamel, PhD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Kamel, a distinguished technical consultant with over five decades of experience, has made significant contributions to the fields of aeronautics and astronautics. Currently serving as an Image Navigation and Registration (INR) consultant to University System of New Hampshire (USNH). In this role, he develops the INR algorithms for the space-based GLIMR instrument that will help scientists observe and monitor ocean biology, chemistry and ecology. Prior to this role, he was INR consultant to Raytheon Technologies (RTX) from 2018 to 2023.
Dr. Kamel's career is marked by a series of impactful roles. His responsibilities included training personnel in INR system before transitioning to work with new companies after training each team. From 2011 to 2015, he was a technical consultant to the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) after serving as a technical consultant to Lockheed Martin Corporation from 2009 to 2010 and to ITT (now L3Harris) from 2004 to 2008. His tenure at SSL (now Maxar) from 2005 to 2006 and Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company from 2003 to 2005 further solidified his reputation as a leader in the INR field. Earlier in his career, Dr. Kamel worked at SSL from 1971 to 2003 starting as mission analysis engineering specialist and retiring as a chief scientist to start his future achievements as INR consultant.
Throughout his career, Dr. Kamel has been recognized for his groundbreaking work in INR Systems, perturbation method in the theory of nonlinear oscillations, and quasi-periodic orbits about the translunar libration point. He coined the term Image Navigation and Registration and the INR acronym. He holds ten patents: seven related to INR, practical method and apparatus for satellite stationkeeping, practical orbit-raising system and method for geosynchronous satellites, and spacecraft attitude control system using low thrust thrusters. His patented invention of the INR System for NASA/NOAA GOES I-M series of satellites (first to use three-axis stabilization) is particularly noteworthy. This INR invention became the foundation for subsequent INR systems for NASA/NOAA GOES-R and GeoXO and similar systems worldwide.
Dr. Kamel's academic background has been instrumental in his professional success. He earned a doctorate in guidance and control from Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Stanford University in 1970, following a Master of Arts in control systems from Department of Electrical Engineering at the same institution in 1966. His educational journey began with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from College of Engineering at Alexandria University, earned in 1963. Beyond his educational background, he attributes his success to the unwavering support of his family.
Further evidencing his professional success, Dr. Kamel is a four-time recipient of the NASA Goddard Spacecraft Flight Center Award, recognizing his contributions to the GOES program. He has also authored more than 30 publications, notably including his two most recent publications "Kalman Filter Algorithm for Image Navigation and Registration" and "General Instrument Misalignment Equations and Transformations For Image Navigation and Registration."
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Kamel enjoys spending time with his family and friends and supporting local civic activities as a volunteer and sponsor. Looking ahead, he envisions continuing to share his expertise through consulting roles that focus on advancing INR systems for NASA and other global communities.
