PEORIA, IL, December 02, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Roy D. Morley has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Morley, a distinguished professional engineer, has made significant contributions to the field of industrial engineering throughout his career. Best known for his extensive tenure at Caterpillar Inc., he served as a research engineer from 1988 to 2002. During his time at Caterpillar, Mr. Morley was instrumental in implementing the first robot operation at the East Peoria plant, a groundbreaking achievement that enhanced efficiency and reduced costs without displacing workers. This innovative project involved integrating a robot capable of handling parts into a 1500-degree F. furnace and transferring them to a quench machine, ultimately improving working conditions and earning praise from the union and management. After it was in operation for a year, it was audited by the accounting department and found to easily meet the return on investment requirements.

Mr. Morley's journey into his profession began with a college co-op program at Caterpillar, where he balanced work inside the plant facilities with his college education. This unique experience allowed him to gain practical knowledge while advancing academically, leading to incremental salary increases as he completed semester hours. Established nearly a century ago, Caterpillar Inc. is recognized as the world's leading construction and mining equipment manufacturer, off-highway diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives.

In addition to his noteworthy contributions to the company, Mr. Morley garnered recognition when he secured patents for a fully automated track assembly machine with a very high return on investment and a shared patent for creating a mechanical joint in an engine oil cooler in 2000. His expertise and insights have also been shared through speaking engagements, including at the National Convention of the Robotic Institute of America.

Mr. Morley's academic background laid a strong foundation for his professional achievements. He earned a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering and another degree in manufacturing processing from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. He was asked by the department head at Bradley to design a course entitled Advanced Manufacturing Processes and to teach it in the graduate school. He found it a challenge and a very rewarding opportunity.

Besides his work-related endeavors, Mr. Morley has been an active member of several industry-related organizations. He served as the president of his local American Institute of Industrial Engineers and vice president of the Peoria Society of Industrial Engineers. He was also vice president of the Peoria Engineering Council. He had the opportunity to serve as a corporate representative to the Robotic Institute of America and also to the American Wire and Tire Association and to the Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) while working with the RIA board of directors.

Mr. Morley's free time is centered around community involvement as he was president of his home owner's association. As an avid saxophone player who began playing in elementary school, he was fortunate to play in President Eisenhower's inaugural parade in 1956. Mr. Morley remains active today by singing in a local choir in Peoria alongside his wife, notably performing with an international choir at Carnegie Hall.

Lastly, Mr. Morley was activated into the United States Air Force by President Kennedy during the Berlin Wall Crisis. Afterward he returned to the Peoria Air National Guard with each person receiving a National Defense Medal and an Appreciation Letter Plaque from Chief of staff General Curtis Le May.
