As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Shukla, an esteemed expert in obstetrics and gynecology, dedicated over 34 years to her profession, retiring in 2008 following a career marked by significant achievements and contributions to women's health. As president of Bergen Women Ob-Gyn Associates, she was known for her focus on patient care and building strong relationships; her commitment to providing exceptional care was evidenced in the loyal patient base she cultivated, primarily through referrals. Dr. Shukla's dedication extended beyond her practice as she offered free services to those unable to afford treatment and delivered community lectures on breast examination, menopause, and osteoporosis.

During her role at Bergen Women Ob-Gyn Associates, Dr. Shukla served as the chief of obstetrics and gynecology at Pascack Valley Hospital, where her leadership was instrumental in advancing the hospital's reputation for quality care in women's health. She also practiced as an obstetrician-gynecologist at Hackensack Medical Center, where she achieved a milestone by performing the first amniocentesis at the center in 1974. Her expertise and pioneering spirit have been recognized by her peers and patients alike.

Dr. Shukla's professional journey has been further enriched by her active involvement in industry-related organizations such as the Bergen County Society Leadership Medical Society and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and as a fellow of the College of Physicians and Surgeons. These affiliations have allowed her to stay at the forefront of advancements in her field while contributing to the broader medical community.

Dr. Shukla's personal experiences profoundly influenced her professional path. Born in Gujarat, India, she overcame significant challenges from a young age, including a severe burn injury that required extensive hospitalization. This experience inspired her to pursue a medical career with a focus on helping others. The unwavering support from her family and later from her husband Surya Kant played a crucial role in her success.

Dr. Shukla went on to earn her Doctor of Medicine from Mumbai University/Bombay Hospital Institute of Medical Sciences in 1966 after completing her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, Diploma in Family Planning, and Fellow of College of Physicians and Surgeons in India. She immigrated to the United States in the 1970s and completed an internship at Hackensack Medical Center before undertaking a residency at Columbia University. Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, her academic achievements have been pivotal in shaping her career.

Outside of her professional life, Dr. Shukla is actively involved in civic-minded organizations such as Bergen County Senior Services and contributes to charity efforts for American Indian students at Montana State University. Her contributions have been recognized with prestigious accolades, including receiving a Gold Medal from President George W. Bush.

Throughout her career, Dr. Shukla has been grateful for the kindness shown to her by both colleagues and patients; their support has contributed significantly to her professional growth, particularly as she navigated language barriers upon her arrival from India. Among her many notable mentors was the late Dr. Scherzmann, who played an important role in her life.

Looking ahead, Dr. Shukla is interested in pursuing part-time opportunities in cancer research, which would allow her to balance professional engagement with spending quality time with her family, including her daughter. She seeks roles that offer flexibility and remote work options to continue contributing to medical research while enjoying personal pursuits with her husband after many years dedicated to her career.
