Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all considered during the selection process.

Drawing on more than two decades of experience in health care, education, and entrepreneurship, Mrs. Tamica Clement Moore (Baylor) has distinguished herself as the owner and lead consultant of Moore Recreation Therapy & Consulting Inc. Founded in 2011, Moore Recreation Therapy and Consulting Inc. delivers a holistic approach to therapy that improves the physical, emotional, social and cognitive health of individuals with disabilities. The company also offers program assessment and development consulting, staff training, school-based programs, and hands-on therapy sessions tailored to meet diverse client & program needs.

As owner, Tamica oversees a team of over 12 professional recreation therapists who create and implement treatment plans and adaptive activities. With expertise in mental health, physical disability, chemical dependency, and program evaluation & development, she develops policies and procedures and facilitates workshops and staff training centered on behavior modification, disability awareness and sensitivity, team building, and adaptive programming.

Renowned for her professional longevity, Tamica began her storied career as a recreation therapist with the mental health population, then advanced to management as a Day Program Supervisor and Assistant Executive Director before becoming a recreation therapy subconsultant. She continued her journey by serving as a recreation therapist for the State of California Corrections Department from 2008 to 2016. During that time, she established her own practice, Moore Recreation Therapy & Consulting, and incorporated it a few years later. She then became an adjunct professor at Sacramento State with the Department of Recreation, Parks, & Tourism. She currently teaches a variety of courses in the Gerontology Department at American River College, including Activity Director Certification and Introduction to Social Gerontology, and she serves as the Community Outreach Coordinator.

Tamica's achievements in the field stem from her dedicated academic endeavors. From 1998 to 1999, she earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Services from Southern University and A&M College. To augment her practice, she is certified as an inclusivity assessor and a certified therapeutic recreation specialist (CTRS).

Long dedicated to civic advocacy, Tamica engages in charity work at her local church, feeding and clothing the unhoused, and has served as a youth group volunteer with the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. over the past 10 years. Furthermore, she has successfully developed her company's outreach project, developing personal hygiene packs for fifth- and sixth-grade girls, and teamed up with a friend as well as a professor at a local college who conducts workshops to encourage young women beginning their menstrual cycles to overcome any awkwardness and embrace their experiences.

Tamica is a member of several important industry-related organizations, including the Texas Recreations and Park Society (TRAPS), the California Park and Recreation Society (CPRS) and the California Council on Gerontology and Geriatrics (CCGG).

Though her career is filled with significant personal milestones and accomplishments, Ms. Moore is particularly proud of her role in enhancing community awareness and understanding of recreational therapy. She was recently invited to speak at several prominent conferences focused on inclusion and adaptive recreation within city parks and recreation departments, further indicating a mounting recognition of the field.

Looking to the future with optimism, Tamica and her husband hope to begin ownership of a franchise and create a work program that provides training and support to expand the number of jobs available to adults with disabilities. In addition, she also aims for Moore Recreation Therapy & Consulting Inc. to collaborate with theme parks and engineering firms to promote and enhance the development of more accessible amusement rides, public parks, and playgrounds for individuals with disabilities. With her unique combination of expertise, drive, and determination, she is well-positioned to accomplish all her future goals and improve countless lives.
