Michael Walzer channels years of varied expertise into his work as a substitute teacher

He taught mathematics, science, and history for grades five through nine while simultaneously coaching soccer and track for 30 years.

AKRON, OH, December 11, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to honor Michael Walzer with inclusion in Who's Who in the World. An accomplished listee, Michael Walzer celebrates many years' experience in his professional network and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A seasoned educator with years of expertise, Mr. Walzer began his career by earning a Bachelor of Science in elementary education from Kent State University in 1976. Subsequently, he joined Akron Public Schools, teaching mathematics, science, and history for grades five through nine. For 30 years, he simultaneously coached soccer and track before retiring from Akron Public Schools in 2006. In the following years, Mr. Walzer furthered his experience as a part-time substitute teacher for Summit County Schools.

After leaving the teaching field just before the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Walzer focused on philanthropic and community endeavors. His dedication to the community is evident in his roles as a member of the Akron Hiking Club and as a volunteer with The Mustill Store and Museum, a visitor center and museum that tells the story of Akron's rise from frontier to industrial power. Over the years, Mr. Walzer has also made significant contributions to the Kent State Alumni Association, the local High School Scholarship Fund, and the Summit County Board of Elections as a poll worker.

Amidst his work as a teacher and a community volunteer, Mr. Walzer fostered a passion for writing. Since 2007, he has written over 60 letters for the Akron Beacon Journal and several poems, including "His Name Was Steve," "Hula Hoopla," "The Many Colors of Vinny Vango," "Staking a Claim," and many others yet to be published. His creative side is truly intriguing. If Mr. Walzer were to write a book about his life, he would title it "Growing Up on the Corner Lot of a Dead End Street," which reflects his love of his childhood home.

Given his professional achievements, Mr. Walzer has been featured in publications such as the Wall Street Journal, Forbes Magazine, and Millennium Magazine. While his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in coming in 13th in Ohio as a middle-distance runner as a high-school athlete. Another memorable moment for him was when one of his students, Rachel, gave him a plaque on the last day of school in 1983 for being her science teacher and track coach.

Looking ahead, Mr. Walzer intends to return to substitute teaching for two to three years, spend more time with his grandnieces and grandnephews, and submit another poem to Eber and Wein Publishers. His future plans are sure to bring more contributions and we look forward to them.
