Shacker, an esteemed pharmaceutical executive, a clinical pharmacist, and a university instructor with over 35 years of experience, has served as the founding president of NOAHsPHARM, a healthcare consultancy, since 2008. Based in Philadelphia, his company comprises a team of management consultants who offer business strategy solutions to the biopharmaceutical industry, aiming to advance therapeutic innovations in different disease areas. Leveraging decades of success, Shacker previously worked for various highly respected pharmaceutical companies, where he first started in quality assurance, moving on to sales, then clinical development, and later marketing. He completed his employment with the industry in strategic intelligence – the specialization of his consulting firm.
In addition to running NOAHsPHARM, Shacker has been contributing to higher education as an adjunct professor of pharmaceutical and health care business at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (now Saint Joseph's University) since 2010. He has also been lecturing Wharton MBAs, undergraduates, as well as individually coaching PhDs on persuasive communication strategies at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia since 2012.
Shacker's career began by working for Eli Lilly in 1984, where he served in quality assurance as a production coordinator until 1987. He then transitioned to Schering-Plough Corporation (now Merck), where he served as a sales representative, Shacker's subsequent tenure at AstraZeneca commenced in 1992 when he was among the first employees to join the commercial organization of the newly formed Astra Merck group of Merck and Company Inc. He later assumed roles of increasing responsibilities as a clinical program scientist in 1994, and as competitive intelligence leader for the CardioVascular Therapeutic Area from 1999 to 2006. He was later promoted to head up the intelligence function, as Director of Strategy Assessment and Intelligence in 2006. In the meantime, Shacker remained involved in healthcare practice, serving as an inpatient clinical pharmacist, on part-time basis, at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs from 2002 to 2023.
Shacker received a Bachelor of Science in pharmaceutical sciences from Mansoura University in Egypt in 1982, a license to practice pharmacy, first, from the University of the State of New York in 1995 and later from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 2004. He subsequently received his Master of Business Administration in Pharmaceutical Marketing from the Haub School of Business at Saint Joseph's University in 1997, then a Master of Science in Health Policy from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in 2017.
In addition to his career endeavors, Shacker is a member of the Strategic Consortium of Intelligence Professionals and serves on the board of directors of Harmony for Peace Foundation – a nonprofit that promotes peace through art and music.
Throughout his career, Shacker has been recognized for his achievements and contributions. He is most proud to have been the first to serve in new roles starting with his quality assurance function for Eli Lilly in Egypt, and most recently piloting the Entrepreneurial Communication course for the undergraduate program at Wharton. He has also received several Performance Awards during his tenure at Schering Plough, Merck, and AstraZeneca in the United States.
Shacker attributes his success to his continuous pursuit of knowledge and the acumen gained from interactions with mentors in industry, healthcare practice, and higher education. His spirituality, based on Coptic Christian beliefs, has also played a significant role in his life.
