KINGSPORT, TN, December 12, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sriraam R. Chandrasekaran has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Chandrasekaran, a distinguished chemical engineer associate at Eastman Chemical Company, has made significant contributions to the field of chemical engineering over his career. With a focus on supporting the organizational platform related to scale-up and process development, he excels in bridging the gap between process development and commercial operations. His expertise in project leadership is evident through his successful project deliveries of multiple projects, including but not limited to thermochemical conversion of plastics and biomass, and the development of fly ash and biochar substitutes for carbon black applications. Additionally, he has worked on projects such as e-waste management and membrane process development including forward osmosis technology.
In both his career and personal life, Dr. Chandrasekaran is dedicated to "the three Rs": reduce, reuse and recycle. Believing that the environment is a shared responsibility, he encourages individuals to take charge to ensure the Earth remains livable for future generations.
Dr. Chandrasekaran's professional journey began in 2009 as a research assistant at Clarkson University, where he honed his skills in environmental science and engineering. He then served as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2013, furthering his research capabilities. From 2014 to 2015, he was a visiting research and development engineer at the same institution, focusing on developing pilot scale capability for gasification and the exploring the feasibility of using locally sourced biomass in residential-scale appliances. His role evolved into lead research engineer from 2015 to 2022, where he contributed significantly to waste conversions to energy and products, developing process and technology while screening methods to improve process efficiency. He has also been principal investigator (PI) and led multiple projects funded by agencies such as the United States, Department of Energy (US DOE) and others.
In 2022, Dr. Chandrasekaran transitioned to Eastman Chemical Company as a principal research chemical engineer in process scale-up and innovation before assuming his current role in 2023. Throughout his career, he has been an active member of industry-related organizations such as the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).
Dr. Chandrasekaran's academic background laid a strong foundation for his career achievements. He earned a doctorate in environmental science and engineering from Clarkson University in 2013, following a Master of Science degree in civil and environmental engineering from the same institution in 2011. His academic journey began with a Bachelor of Technology degree in chemical engineering from Anna University in Chennai in 2009. Influenced by mentors like Dr. Philip Hopke, who guided him through his doctoral studies, he attributes much of his success to his family and mentors.
Born in Neiveli, India, Dr. Chandrasekaran is deeply involved in civic activities as a volunteer and mentor for local Indian children. He is also an accomplished classical musician and has authored over twenty scientific journal articles, several technical reports, and two book chapters. His dedication to both science and community service is further recognized by awards such as the VICAL Award from the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers.
Outside of work, Dr. Chandrasekaran enjoys a fulfilling personal life with his spouse Srividhya Sriram and their daughter. He finds joy in teaching classical music and engaging in outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, and kayaking. Looking ahead, he aims to grow into leadership roles that will allow him to develop strategies contributing to the growth of Eastman Chemical Company while continuing to balance his professional aspirations with personal interests.
