Her role involves crafting and delivering training modules, conducting in-person training sessions and leveraging online platforms for presentations. Her expertise in tuberculosis is widely recognized, and she actively participates in discussions as a member of the National Tuberculosis Coalition of America and the National Tuberculosis Nurse Coalition.
Prior to her current position, Ms. Blanchard served as a lactation consultant at Women's and Children's Hospital. Her most notable achievement during this time was obtaining the International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (BCLC) credential. Although her certification lapsed in 2015 due to her commitment to public health initiatives, she remains proud of her contributions to the sector.
Ms. Blanchard's journey into public health began when she sought a role with more family-friendly hours while raising young children. In 2006, she joined the public health unit, contributing to various programs related to tuberculosis, immunizations, reproductive health, sexually transmitted diseases and children's special health services. By 2013, she had advanced to the role of regional tuberculosis nurse.
Ms. Blanchard's educational background laid a strong foundation for her career. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, in 1998. The combination of her academic qualifications and hard work has earned her recognition as Nurse of the Year for Public Health in 2017.
Ms. Blanchard attributes her accomplishments to the unwavering support and encouragement she received from her parents and siblings and the guidance of her friends as she navigated higher education. She also derives immense support from her current husband and is motivated by the memories of her late first husband.
In her personal life, Ms. Blanchard enjoys walking with her dog, cooking and spending quality time with her immediate family, including her husband, three children and her extended family. She is also involved in civic-minded work through her church and programs for prisoners. Looking ahead, she is committed to enhancing the effectiveness of the tuberculosis control program and setting new benchmarks for success before retiring from her career.
