Rev. Dr. Golemon, an esteemed figure in theological education, has dedicated his career to shaping the future of religious leadership in the U.S. As the executive director of the Washington Theological Consortium in Washington, D.C., he has been instrumental in directing educational services to 10 theological schools in the Mid-Atlantic region for over a decade. His role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including coordinating meetings of presidents, deans, staff and faculty for collaboration and shared programming, working with the student board to plan consortia-wide student events and planning and managing public events for interfaith and ecumenical outreach. Rev. Dr. Golemon also oversees work related to various certificates of study, including Ecumenism, Muslim-Christian studies, criminal justice, ecology and theology, and spirituality. He promotes Christian ecumenism and interfaith understanding by teaching in theology and ecumenism and by designing courses in Abrahamic Dialogue for Jewish, Muslim, and Christian students.
In addition to his objectives at the consortium, Rev. Dr. Golemon has been serving as the executive director of the Reformed Institute of Metropolitan Washington since 2019. The Institute aims to promote the understanding and appreciation of the Reformed tradition among Presbyterian churches in the Washington, D.C., area.
Rev. Dr. Golemon's extensive career history included serving as an instructor at Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia, from 2007 to 2013. He also contributed as a researcher and author at the Alban Institute in Herndon, Virginia, between 2006 and 2009. Rev. Dr. Golemon's academic journey also included roles as an instructor and researcher at the Dominican University of California in San Rafael from 2003 to 2006 and as a Doctor of Ministry instructor at San Francisco Theological Seminary in San Anselmo between 2000 and 2006. He also worked as a research consultant for the Carnegie Foundation in Palo Alto from 2001 to 2005. Earlier he taught at the Union Theological Seminary of the Philippines from 1997-2000. Rev. Dr. Golemon's expertise in the shape and history of theological education in the U.S. has become widely recognized.
Rev. Dr. Golemon's academic credentials are extensive. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in history with a focus on Renaissance and Reformation history from Stanford University in 1980, a Master of Divinity in general divinity and historical theology from Yale Divinity School in 1984, a Master of Theology from Columbia Theological Seminary in 1993 and a Doctor of Philosophy in theology and critical theory from Emory University in 1998.
Besides his academic background, Rev. Dr. Golemon remains relevant in his field through membership in the American Academy of Religion. This affiliation also enables him to collaborate with like-minded individuals.
In addition to his primary professional achievements, Rev. Dr. Golemon has made significant contributions through his publications. He is the author of "Clergy Education in America: Religious Leadership and American Public Life (Religion in America Series)," via Oxford University Press in 2021. His earlier works included "Finding Our Story: Narrative Leadership and Congregational Change," "Living Our Story: Narrative Leadership and Congregational Culture," and "Teaching Our Story: Narrative Leadership and Pastoral Formation," all part of the Narrative Leadership Collection published by Rowman & Littlefield Publishers in 2010.
