SAN ANTONIO, TX, December 18, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Steven Gouge with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Steven Gouge celebrates many years' experience in his professional network and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
After earning a bachelor's degree in zoology and animal biology from Texas A&M University, Dr. Gouge earned an MD from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Upon graduating from medical school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as an assistant chief of the nephrology service between 1984 and 1988. Subsequently, Dr. Gouge became chief of the nephrology service and director of the nephrology fellowship training program at Brooke Army Medical Center, where he trained fellows and assisted in training residents and medical students.
Over the years, Dr. Gouge grew from strength to strength, serving as a Third Infantry Division Surgeon, commander of the 212 M.A.S.H. Unit, and clinical operations officer of the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence's Directorate of Combat and Doctrine Development, through which he oversaw future battlefield health care. Before retiring from the U.S. Army in 2003, he was commander of the 86th Combat Support Hospital, a member of the first medical brigade of Combined Joint Task Force Seven, and earned a Master of Strategic Studies in strategy from Army War College. Dr. Gouge was deployed throughout his military tenure to fight in the Gulf War for Operation Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom.
As a civilian, Dr. Gouge leveraged his considerable expertise as a nephrologist for San Antonio Kidney, where he provided outpatient nephrology care and supervised clinical research from 2003 until his retirement in 2020. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, he aligned himself with several industry organizations, including the American College of Physicians. In addition to his professional endeavors and affiliations, Dr. Gouge supports various religious organizations and donates to Samaritan's Purse.
Given his professional achievements, Dr. Gouge received several military awards, including a Bronze Star and a Legion of Merit. For his academic accomplishments, he was also voted Best Teacher by Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. While his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in commanding a mobile Army surgical hospital in Bosnia for a year. Though hard work and dedication have brought him far in his career, he credits his success to his faith in Jesus, his wife's support, and his mentors' guidance. Looking forward, Dr. Gouge intends to write a book about his past experiences, travel more, and spend more time with his grandchildren.
