Dr. Denslow served as the director of the Sitka, Alaska Historical Museum from 1995 to 2003. Her leadership at the museum was marked by a commitment to preserving local history and educating the public about the region's cultural heritage. Her professional educational roles in El Paso, TX, Lansing, Michigan, Penfield, NY, Anchorage and Sitka laid a strong foundation for her subsequent achievements with the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Dr. Denslow's academic background was pivotal in her professional journey. She earned a Doctor of Education in curriculum and administration from Brigham Young University in 1986, following a Master of Arts in elementary education teaching from Michigan State University in 1962 and a Bachelor of Science in early childhood education from the same institution in 1956. The guidance and support from her mentors have been instrumental in her success, helping her navigate challenges and unlock new possibilities throughout her career.
A 14th-generation American, Dr. Denslow was raised on her First Family's third-generation farm nestled in the heart of Central Michigan. Her journey was significantly shaped when she became one of four 4-H members to receive a prestigious scholarship in Detroit, a pivotal moment that opened the doors to her college education and allowed her to pursue her dreams.
Her involvement with various civic organizations further underscores her dedication to historical preservation and community service. She served as President of the Sikta Rotary Club. As president of the John Plumb Chapter Colonial Dames 17th Century and a Past State President, 2016, Dr. Denslow has played a significant role in promoting historical awareness and education. She is also the Past OK State Regent of Daughters of the American Colonists. Her affiliations with groups such as the Oklahoma Division of Magna Charta Dames and Barons and the Oklahoma Court of National Society Women Descendants of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company reflect her deep commitment to honoring American heritage.
Dr. Denslow's contributions have been recognized through numerous awards, including the Oklahoma State Outstanding DAR Chapter Regent award in 2011, the Molly Pitcher, Daughter of Liberty, and Martha Washington medals from the Sons of the American Revolution, and the prestigious Service Key Award from Phi Delta Kappa. These accolades highlight her impact on both her community and the broader field of historical preservation.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Dr. Denslow enjoys playing the piano, reading, researching, working in her yard, member of two book clubs and Questers. She is also looking forward to becoming a great-grandmother in March 2025.
