DETROIT, MI, December 20, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jocelyn Catherine Flemons, Esq., has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Drawing inspiration from the example of her parents, who supported her educational and professional efforts since childhood, Ms. Flemons has dedicated her professional journey to causes that strengthen families through access to quality education and stable employment opportunities. Having led a multifaceted career in both teaching and legal service, she bears a unique perspective that allows her to recognize connections, creatively problem solve, and effectively communicate complex ideas. Best noted for her keen sense of forethought and ability to strategize for optimal outcomes throughout legal proceedings, Ms. Flemons has most recently found success as an associate attorney at Miller Cohen PLC.

Initially studying education at the University of Detroit Mercy, Ms. Flemons earned a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in 2010, after which she became a licensed educator. Beginning as a program coordinator for Playworks Michigan, a nonprofit organization that seeks to create healthy play environments for young students, she went on to work overseas as an English teacher via the English Program in Korea (EPIK), during which time she received the program's Bronze Prize for Best Co-teaching Lesson in 2012. Returning to Detroit, Ms. Flemons served as a teacher throughout Detroit from 2013 until 2018.

Over the course of her career as a teacher, Ms. Flemons and her colleagues were frequently forced to deal with a constant whirlwind of social issues affecting the legal landscape of education. This, combined with a general lack of understanding among teachers regarding their legal rights, sharpened her interest in labor and employment law. As a result, she went back to school at Detroit Mercy Law, where she would sit on the board of the Immigration Law Association and serve as a member of Moot Court, ultimately earning a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 2021.

Over the course of her studies, Ms. Flemons served over the summer of 2019 as a judicial intern under the Honorable Chief Judge Denise Page Hood of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, and as a student extern for the Detroit Mercy Law Federal Pro Se Legal Assistance Clinic. Additionally, finding herself drawn to its focus on the plaintiff side of labor and employment law, she joined the staff of Miller Cohen PLC as a clerk until her graduation in 2021, whereupon she was offered a full-time role as an associate attorney.

In 2023 Ms. Flemons was awarded the Rising Star Award by the Black Women's Lawyers Association of Michigan, in part because of her participation in legal expungement clinics, which assist people in legally removing their criminal records, thereby enabling them better opportunities to find employment.

Passionate and purposeful in her pursuits, when Ms. Flemons isn't engaged in legal work she enjoys learning new skills, cooking, and spending time in nature. Looking toward the future, she aims to persist in furthering her expertise in the legal field to take on significant cases that will exert a positive impact on workers' rights and families everywhere.
