Such a devastating injury can represent the end of an athlete's career but Mr. Baker was determined to make a full recovery and develop his marketing talents, and he soon became the president-elect of the University of Alabama at Birmingham's entrepreneur club. Successfully recuperating from his anterior cruciate ligament injury, he returned to college football at Georgia State University, setting a school record in his very first game with two interceptions and three fumble recoveries for a total of five takeaways. He went on to secure multiple academic and athletic honors, becoming a two-time all-conference safety while earning a bachelor's degree in communications, marketing and entrepreneurship.
Long dedicated to civic advocacy, Mr. Baker has volunteered with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and the chair for communication, press and publicity committee with the organization's Orange County branch. He is also a member of the National Football Foundation's Bill W. Campbell Honor Society as well as the AdWeek Executive Mentorship Program for aspiring marketing professionals.
