HAVERTOWN, PA, January 03, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Alexander K. Gittelman has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Gittelman has dedicated his career to music education, serving as the director of bands and a general music teacher at Haverford Middle School since 2011. In this role, he prepares and teaches lessons for 60 to 90 students, manages large groups of students and prepares curricula and programming for music. Notably, his expertise in managing bands of up to 260 seventh and eighth-grade students is commendable, and he additionally oversees another 250 general music students throughout the year while conducting three auditioned honors for brass and percussion instruments, as well as two honors auditions for the Jazz Ensemble.

In tandem with his teaching responsibilities, Mr. Gittelman conducts research and ensures that the music department is well-organized. To date, his most notable achievement was managing the school's application for the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation's Best Communities for Music Education Award. Under his leadership, the department has won this prestigious award multiple times over the past decade, distinguishing itself as one of only 700 institutions recognized nationwide.

Furthermore, Mr. Gittelman's contributions to music education have been recognized with several awards, including being a finalist for the 2023 to 2024 Grammy Foundation Music Educator of the Year, receiving the Best Communities for Music Education Award from The National Association for Music Merchants Foundation and earning the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Award. Guided by his belief that all individuals need, deserve and can gain value from music, particularly music education, he remains committed to excellence, which is further demonstrated by his involvement with the National Association for Music Education, the National Committee of the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

To further advance his knowledge, Mr. Gittelman is pursuing a doctorate in music education at Temple University. Previously, he earned a master's degree in music education with a focus on middle school-level band repertoire from the University of the Arts in 2016. In all he has pursued and achieved, Mr. Gittelman attributes much of his success to supportive teachers who provided guidance and encouragement throughout his academic journey. Such a foundation has been instrumental in shaping his approach to teaching and research.

Mr. Gittelman's dedication extends beyond his professional duties through his involvement in civic-minded organizations. Moreover, as a performer and musician, he continues to engage in projects that enhance his creative expression. He enjoys performing and playing the trumpet in various settings, including jazz recordings with groups and Latin ensembles.

Outside of music, Mr. Gittelman cherishes spending time with his wife, caring for their ten cats and playing Dungeons & Dragons. Looking ahead, he aims to utilize his research on the neuroscience of music education to develop innovative curricula based on these findings. Mr. Gittelman hopes to implement this program statewide and nationally while continuing his career as a professional musician and educator in schools and other venues where he can contribute to education.
