Before joining Applied Materials, Mr. Gonzalez gained experience through various roles that contributed to his professional development. He served as an engineering professional intern at The Walt Disney Company in 2023 and again in 2022 while contributing as a technical specialist at Apple during the same period. His journey also includes a stint as a software and web design intern at Applied Materials in 2021, which paved the way for his current engineering position.
Mr. Gonzalez's career began with foundational roles that shaped his professional trajectory. He worked as a research associate at Drexel University from 2020 to 2021, where he was involved in projects such as MXenes for energy storage and epitaxial SrGeO3 films. Additionally, he co-founded DripShield from 2020 to 2021 and held various positions at the Chick-fil-A Franchise from 2013 to 2021, starting as a team member and eventually becoming a hospitality team lead.
Educationally, Mr. Gonzalez completed a Master of Science in materials science and engineering from Drexel University in 2022 and a Bachelor of Science in physics with a minor in web design from Seton Hall University in 2020. Despite facing challenges during his undergraduate studies due to unavailable engineering classes, he persevered by pursuing a minor in web design, which ultimately opened doors for him in the engineering field.
In recognition of his accomplishments, Mr. Gonzalez has received several awards and honors. These include the College of Engineering Resser Award and the College of Engineering Dean's Fellowship from Drexel University and the Antoine York Memorial Scholarship from Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church, among many others.
Mr. Gonzalez attributes much of his success to those around him, including his family and friends, who recognized his potential and persuaded him to strive for excellence rather than settle for mediocrity. He is inspired to pay these blessings forward and give back to the next generation, as well as repay those who helped him along the way. This mindset has motivated him throughout his journey.
In conjunction with his professional work, Mr. Gonzalez served civically as the secretary of the Drexel Black Graduate Student Union and was a mentor for the STEM Summit organized by the Hispanic Scholarship Fund. He has further volunteered with Women Supporting Women in Sciences, the Community FoodBank of New Jersey and numerous other organizations.
Outside of his career, Mr. Gonzalez enjoys basketball, running, music, arts and digital design. He is driven by aspirations of advancing into managerial or director roles within his company and dreams of one day founding his own car company. He is working toward this long-term goal by building his financial foundation and studying how successful entrepreneurs have built their businesses.
