Before his presidency, Mr. Third served as vice president of the Keeler Tavern Museum from 2006 to 2012. His dedication to the museum's mission was equally evident during this period as he worked diligently to enhance its offerings and engage the community. Prior to his involvement with the center, Mr. Third held a prominent role as a major account director for the Microwave Communications Division at Harris Corporation from 1990 to 2007. His expertise in communications technology was honed during his tenure at ITT Federal Electric Co., where he served as the director of special projects from 1982 to 1990 and as a senior system engineer at ITT Commercial Services Inc. from 1972 to 1982.
Mr. Third's career began at ITT Federal Electric Corp., where he worked as a junior engineer from 1960 to 1962 and then as an engineer for eight years before ascending to the role of system engineer at ITT Space Communications in 1970. His technical acumen and leadership skills were further recognized through his membership in esteemed organizations such as the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, where he is a senior member, and Eta Kappa Nu. Additionally, he has served on the board of directors for the Bergen County Chapter of the New Jersey Audubon Society and is involved with the Palisades Nature Association.
Educationally, Mr. Third holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University, earned in 1960. He is also a certified professional engineer in New Jersey, underscoring his longstanding commitment to maintaining high standards in the industry.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Third is actively engaged with civic-minded organizations such as the Rotary Club. His contributions have been recognized with several awards, including a civic award from the Alzheimer's Club in 2024, an honoree title at the Keeler Tavern Museum Gala in 2022 and a proclamation of honor by the Town of Ridgefield in 2019.
In his personal life, Mr. Third enjoys birdwatching, hiking and collecting antique maps and prints. Looking to the future, he aspires to launch an upcoming exhibit at the Ridgefield Library and the Keeler Tavern Museum that will inspire visitors with his artistic vision. He is also actively involved in creating a nonprofit organization called SOAR Together, through which he hopes to make a positive and lasting impact on his local community.
