Peter Mooz with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, R. Peter Mooz celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

From a young age, Dr. Mooz realized that art greatly impacted his life. While attending Cornell Law School full-time, he obtained the Dean's permission to enroll in several graduate Art History classes. He spent most of his time on art courses rather than law and decided to switch career paths. After earning a Bachelor of Arts in history with distinction from Wesleyan University and a Master of Arts in art history from Boston University, he expanded his professional knowledge by completing a PhD in art history from the University of Pennsylvania. Upon graduating, he accepted chairing the Winterthur Museum Program in Early American Culture along with an appointment as Assistant Professor at the University of Delaware. This introduction to museum work allowed him to show others the importance of art in their lives.

Over the years, Dr. Mooz gained valuable expertise as Director of the Bowdoin College Museum of Art, where he again was also on the faculty, Director of The Virginia Museum of Fine Art, Director of the Mary Moody Northern Foundation, the Dallas Historical Society, and Texas State Museum of History, Correlatively, he was appointed to the faculty of the Universities of Pennsylvania, Vermont, Virginia, V.C.U., Mary Washington, Texas and University of Bath (U.K.). Drawing on years of professional expertise and scholarship, he created First Landing, Co. Inc. as principle broker to restore historic houses and The Foundation for the Fine Arts, Inc., which supports museums, artists, education programs and community betterment. In the light of his vast acquired breadth of knowledge, Dr. Mooz authored "American Masterworks of Religious Painting to 1776," "The Genius of American Painting" and "American Painting to 1776."

Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field and contribute to others, Dr. Mooz has aligned himself with Delta Tau Delta, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the National Association of Realtors, the Richmond Antiquarian Society, the College Art Association, the Society of Architectural Historians, and the Society for Prevention of New England Antiquities. Devoted to his community, Dr. Mooz has been a member of the local Rotary Club, Virginia Beach Historical Preservation Board and President of the Chrysler Museum Library Trustees. Nationally, he has served on the boards of the National Art Commission and The National Humanities Commission and Founding Trustee of The National Museum and Library Commission, which funds those institutions throughout the U.S. Also, he was elected Accreditation Commissioner for the American Museums Association.

While his career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Mooz takes honor in working with Sydney and Francis Lewis on acquiring their collection of pop art featuring Andy Warhol, named by Times magazine as one of the 100 greatest collections in America, along with the Equine Horse and Impressionist Collections of Paul Mellon. These propelled the Virginia Museum to international status. Though hard work and dedication have brought him far in his career, he credits his success to his vast experiences, passion for the arts, and desire to help others discover art in their lives. Looking forward, he intends to continue restoring and building houses for low-income families, downsizing seniors, first-time homebuyers and veterans. These homes will be designed to beautify their neighborhoods and provide happiness, joy, mental uplifting and intellectual stimulation in their interiors. Creating these feelings for others has been Dr. Mooz's greatest lifelong desire.
