Dr. Li has established a distinguished career in the field of optical design, with a focus on biomedical and silicon-based optical systems. His most recent role was as a bio-medical optical designer at Rockley Photonics from 2021 to 2023, where he specialized in both sequential and non-sequential silicon-based optical systems. His expertise in optics is further demonstrated by his position as an optical lens and lighting illumination design engineer at Byton Sense Photonics Automobile Startup from 2018 to 2021, where he contributed to the development of advanced automotive lenses.
Prior to his work in the automotive industry, Dr. Li served as a lens designer for an augmented reality startup and the wafer scanner industry from 2017 to 2018. In 2017, he also held a position as a lens designer at Microsoft after a nine-year tenure as a staff optical engineer at Qualcomm Technologies Inc. His early career includes contributions to several companies as an optical engineer, including KLA-Tencor Corporation, New Wave Research, Avanex/Lamdaflex and InViso.
In addition to his professional roles, Dr. Li has been serving as a consultant for BrightestTECH since 2023, where he continues to share his extensive knowledge in optical design. His contributions to the field are highlighted by his innovative work on silicon-cutting equipment and specialized lenses for automobiles, which have earned him recognition among his peers.
Dr. Li's academic background is equally impressive, having earned a Doctor of Philosophy in laser and optical engineering from The Institute of Optics at the University of Rochester in 1989 after immigrating to the United States to pursue higher education in 1983. Beyond his education, he attributes much of his success to his unwavering persistence in overcoming challenges.
Dr. Li is very proud of winning a high school math competition in China in 1963 before he entered the workforce. Born in Shanghai, Dr. Li enjoys reading optical research and literature, gardening and exercising. He and his wife adopted a daughter from China, who is now pursuing a medical degree.
