Her career also included a decade-long tenure as an assistant professor at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville between 2011 and 2021, where she honed her skills in academia and student advocacy. From 2007 to 2010, she was an instructor at Barnes Jewish College at Goldfarb School of Nursing.
Dr. Green's early career was marked by her work as a graduate research assistant at the University of Missouri Saint Louis from 2005 to 2007. Her dissertation was initiated during her pre-doctoral program at Washington University in 2010 doing a secondary analysis on a data set regarding African American women HIV testing patterns. Her professional journey began with roles such as staff nurse at Barnes Hospital from 1986 to 1988, home health case manager at Home Care Plus between 1988 and 1990 and quality improvement/nurse educator and home health nurse at BJC: Barnes Jewish Home Health Care from 1990 to 2001.
Becoming highly educated to support her life's work, Dr. Green obtained a diploma in nursing from the Jewish School of Nursing in 1986. Subsequently, she studied at the University of Missouri Saint Louis, receiving a Bachelor of Science in nursing, magna cum laude, in 2004, a Master of Science in nursing in 2007, and a Doctor of Philosophy in nursing in 2015. Moreover, Dr. Green holds a registered nurse designation, underscoring her commitment to excellence in nursing practice.
Throughout her career, Dr. Green has been a member of several professional organizations, including the American Nurses Association, the Missouri Nurses Association and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. She was appointed by Governor Nixon as a member of Missouri Nursing Board for eight years. She engages in student activities by volunteering at student events and in 2025 will begin her volunteering at the student food bank.
