Before her leading role at ECHO Inc., Dr. Miller was the academic dean of the school of natural and applied sciences at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana, from 2018 to 2023. During her tenure, she was pivotal in advancing the institution's academic programs and fostering an environment conducive to research and innovation. Dr. Miller's leadership was also instrumental in promoting interdisciplinary collaboration among faculty and students.

From 2009 to 2023, Dr. Miller was a professor in the biology department at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion. Her dedication to teaching and research earned her recognition among peers and students. She is best known for her commitment to integrating real-world applications into her curriculum, preparing students for careers in biology and related fields.

Dr. Miller's career also included a significant period as a board member of ECHO Inc. from 2010 to 2013, where she contributed her expertise in sustainable agriculture to guide the organization's mission. She also spent over a decade teaching at Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts.

In preparation for her career, Dr. Miller received a Bachelor of Arts in art and botany from Duke University in 1980, a Master of Science in agronomy-plant physiology from the University of California Davis in 1984, and a Doctor of Philosophy in plant physiology from Purdue University in 1990.

Dr. Miller is a professional member of the American Scientific Affiliation and the American Society of Plant Biologists. She is also actively involved with civic-minded organizations, such as Young Life. She also serves as a board member for PEER Servants and The Decade Project and is active with local food pantries, reflecting her commitment to community service and nonprofit initiatives.

Dr. Miller was recognized for her work in the classroom when Gordon College honored her with the Distinguished Junior Faculty Award from 1991 to 2002. Among her most noteworthy achievements was her groundbreaking research on moringa, a tree with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Dr. Miller also published two book chapters on moringa, with her chapter on moringa including a comprehensive pharmacognosy book discussing various pharmacological biochemicals.
