Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Ferrell boasts a distinguished career spanning over 50 years in psychiatry and academia, marked by significant contributions across clinical practice, education, and scholarly endeavors. Graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from DePauw University in 1965 and earning his Doctor of Medicine from Indiana University in 1969, he laid the groundwork for his subsequent accomplishments.

Ascending to the position of associate professor of psychiatry at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College, Dr. Ferrell dedicated nearly five decades to clinical practice, showcasing his unwavering commitment to excellence. Notably, his passion for education shines through in developing and delivering the course "The History of The Field of Medicine" in 2022.

Dr. Ferrell served as an assistant professor of psychiatry at the Geisel School of Medicine from 1975 to 1981, during which he authored numerous scholarly works published in esteemed professional journals, further solidifying his impact and expertise in the field. He has also served as an elected councilor for the American Neuropsychiatric Association and as a longstanding member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society since 1969.

Dr. Ferrell derives satisfaction from two key aspects of his career: contributing to the vast knowledge base in psychiatry and academia, and engaging with patients and students. These experiences allowed him to positively impact individual lives and make meaningful contributions to the broader medical community. Since 2017 he has been devoted to preclinical medical education at Geisel.

Dr. Ferrell's dedication to excellence, commitment to education, and active community involvement have left a lasting impact on both individuals and the medical community at large.
