Currently serving as the senior vice president of the central lab, biomarker, and biologics services at Frontage Laboratories Inc. in Exton, Pennsylvania, she leads a global team focused on medical diagnostics and end point testing during the clinical trial phase. Since joining Frontage Laboratories in 2020 as the vice president, she has played a pivotal role in establishing a global central laboratory that supports pharmaceutical and biotech companies in ensuring patient safety and facilitating drug approvals by the Food and Drug Administration.
Under her leadership, the organization has enhanced its global central lab footprint and strengthened its service offerings in large molecule bioanalysis, flow cytometry, genomic services, and immunoassay development. She has played a pivotal role in building state-of-the-art facilities, achieving CAP accreditation and CLIA certification, and streamlining operations to meet the highest quality standards. By fostering a collaborative culture, driving operational excellence, and focusing on client-centric solutions, she has positioned Frontage as a trusted partner in drug development and clinical trials, empowering her teams to deliver results that exceed client expectations.
Before being acquired by Frontage Laboratories, Dr. Zhang held several key positions that honed her expertise and leadership skills. From 2019 to 2020, she was the director of hematology, flow cytometry, advanced coagulation and blood bank at Rochester General Hospital under Rochester Regional Health. Concurrently, she was the laboratory medical director and global lead of hematology at ACM Global Laboratories in Rochester, New York, between 2018 and 2020. Dr. Zhang also garnered experience as a hematopathologist and assistant professor of pathology at the University at Buffalo from 2014 to 2018.
Dr. Zhang graduated from Beijing Medical University (Peking University Health Science Center) with a Bachelor of Medicine in 2000. She also received a Doctor of Philosophy in Pathobiology from the University of Southern California in 2006. Additional educational pursuits include a residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center from 2009 to 2011 and the University at Buffalo between 2011 and 2013, followed by a fellowship in hematopathology from the City of Hope in Duarte, California, from 2013 to 2014. Dr. Zhang also received an anatomic pathology,clinical pathology, and Hematology board certification from the American Board of Pathology.
Dr. Zhang's professional journey is complemented by her involvement in industry-related organizations. She is a member of the College of American Pathologists and the American Society for Clinical Pathology. She is also a past president of the Western New York Society of Pathologists, where she coordinated events and improved educational opportunities for local pathologists from 2018 to 2019. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dr. Zhang is committed to civic engagement through volunteering with local churches' Fight for Hunger Program.
In light of her dedication to advancing pathology education, Dr. Zhang earned a Teacher of the Year award from the pathology residency program at the University at Buffalo. She also received a Certificate of Recognition from the laboratory medical direction advanced practical pathology program of the College of American Pathologists and the GME Quality Improvement Award for optimizing CSF stabilizer medium for pathology flow cytometry analysis at the University at Buffalo. Eager for future medical advancements, Dr. Zhang is keen to contribute to more clinical trials while nurturing a long-term goal of becoming a fiction writer to share her life experiences with younger generations as she approaches retirement.
