Ms. Dutson has dedicated nearly five decades to theater education, imparting her extensive knowledge and passion for the performing arts to generations of students. Since 2010, she has held the esteemed title of professor emeritus at Mesa Community College (MCC) within the Maricopa County Community College District, recognizing her enduring impact and contributions to the institution. Ms. Dutson's tenure at MCC spanned from 1969 to 2009, where she was deeply involved in teaching various aspects of technical theater, including set design, lighting, and production responsibilities. Additionally, she served as a lecturer at Arizona State University (ASU) in Tempe from 1967 to 1968. Ms. Dutson's expertise in teaching theater history is particularly notable, reflecting her commitment to educating students about the rich tapestry of theatrical traditions and practices.

Throughout her illustrious career at MCC, Ms. Dutson achieved several significant milestones. She served as the faculty senate president from 2005 to 2006 and, before her presidency, was elected as the faculty senate president-elect for the 2004-2005 term. She was also an active faculty senator from 1982 to 2006. These leadership roles underscore Ms. Dutson's dedication to faculty governance and influence on academic policy and curriculum development.

Apart from Ms. Dutson's career in teaching, she had the opportunity to direct over 80 productions between 1969 and 2009. She also served as the costume designer for over 150 dramatic plays. As a trained fighter with a black belt in the Goju Shorei Weapons System and a black belt through the Arizona Chuan Fa Society, Ms. Dutson has also served as an actor and combatant for the Society of American Fight Directors.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Ms. Dutson has been an ardent supporter of charitable organizations that align with her values of fairness and equality. Her contributions to food banks, medical organizations like Doctors Without Borders and Planned Parenthood, and advocacy groups such as Oxfam International, the American Civil Liberties Union, and the Southern Poverty Law Center, reflect her commitment to social justice and community service. Additionally, Ms. Dutson has been giving back her time as a driver and shopper for Financial Assistant for the Blind since 2009 and as an Arizona adjudicator since 2010.

Ms. Dutson's educational background laid a strong foundation for her professional achievements. She studied at ASU, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in 1966 and a Master of Arts in 1967. Her entry into theater was inspired by her high school play director, Richard Hutchinson, and further nurtured by mentor Joanne Briggs at ASU.

As part of her dedication and commitment to her field, Ms. Dutson has been active as a professional member of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology Inc. and the Costume Society of America.

The highlight of Ms. Dutson's career was being elected into the MCC Hall of Fame as one of the institution's distinguished faculty members. MCC also recognized her in 2007 with a Faculty Service Award. Among other accolades, Ms. Dutson was honored to receive an Arizona Theatre Alliance Award in 2000 and an Arizona Award in 2002.
