SLINGERLANDS, NY, January 16, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Charles P. Scholes, PhD, has been recognized for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Hailing from over five decades of experience in both academia and nonprofit leadership, Dr. Scholes presently serves as the president of the nonprofit board of directors for the Silo Project, which functions as the American fundraising branch of the Pazapa Center for Children with Disabilities. In this capacity, he has played a pivotal role in steering the organization towards its mission of providing medical and educational support in Haiti. His involvement extends beyond typical board duties; as the de facto executive director, he oversees communications, fundraising efforts, and the operational logistics of transporting medications to Haiti. His commitment to increasing the board's size and ensuring the organization's sustainability reflects his deep investment in its cause.
Before his tenure with the Silo Project, Dr. Scholes had an illustrious career in academia as a professor at the State University of New York in Albany. Recognized with the distinguished title of professor emeritus of chemistry in 2017 upon his retirement, his academic journey at the university began in 1973 as an assistant professor of physics, progressing through roles as an associate professor and professor of physics before transitioning to chemistry in 1990.
Throughout his four decades in academia, Dr. Scholes distinguished himself as an experimental physicist turned physical biochemist, earning respect and recognition for his expertise. His professional affiliations with the American Chemical Society, the American Physical Society, and the Biophysical Society underscore his standing in the scientific community. Additionally, he is proud to have been recognized as a fellow of the International EPR/ESR Society.
Dr. Scholes's academic foundation was laid with a Bachelor of Arts in Physics from Cornell University in 1964, followed by a PhD in molecular biophysics from Yale University in 1969. He further honed his expertise through postdoctoral research fellowships at the University of Oxford and the University of California San Diego in 1970 and 1973, respectively. These experiences not only equipped him with a unique skill set but also instilled in him a philosophy of thinking outside the box--a trait he credits for his success. His decision to join the Silo Project was deeply personal, driven by a desire to honor his late son's memory and give meaning to a life cut tragically short.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Scholes leads an active personal life, finding joy in high-intensity interval training workouts and running. Looking ahead, he envisions himself continuing to contribute significantly to the Pazapa Center's long-term sustainability.
