He led successful research and development initiatives using technologies from IBM, Hewlett Packard, Oracle, and Pegasystems, achieving several firsts in claims operations and payment integrity. His innovative projects received recognition from IBM's chief of data science and Hewlett Packard's CEO, Meg Whitman. From 2007 to 2010, he served as the director of UHG Enterprise Software Services, where he led the creation of the first UHG Multitenant Portal Management Service and played a key role in the rebranding of Optum Health.
Mr. Samuelson's professional experience also includes his role as the director of technology at Dow Jones from 2005 to 2007, where he oversaw all MarketWatch.com technologies and systems. His work on the first commercial-grade news feed for MarketWatch.com was a catalyst for Dow Jones to acquire the company. As an engagement manager at Magenic Technologies from 1997 to 2005, he worked closely with Microsoft and served on the Microsoft Advisory Council, receiving recognition for his contributions to their business intelligence strategies. He also conceived, designed, and built an innovative rule engine for RFC, which was used to build new business units for European mortgage evaluations.
Mr. Samuelson began his career with an 11-year tenure at Rockwell International, where he created and implemented the company's first executive information system and operations data warehouse. These innovations streamlined processes and significantly reduced the time required for financial closings while providing executives with near-real-time analytical information for better decision-making. Throughout his career, Mr. Samuelson has received recognition from Microsoft, Oracle, and IBM for his innovations and contributions to their technologies and strategies.
Mr. Samuelson holds a Master of Business Administration in finance and management information systems, with honors, from the University of Iowa Tippie College of Business, and a Bachelor of Science in agribusiness from Iowa State University. His early experience with computers sparked his interest in technology, leading him to reverse-engineer a market simulation program on an Apple II computer. Reflecting on his career, Mr. Samuelson emphasizes the importance of striving for radical goals and solving intractable problems with out-of-the-box thinking.
