Currently serving as the director of language acquisition at Keller Independent School District (KISD) since 2018, she oversees teacher training and directly supervises all the English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers and specialists to ensure compliance with state regulations. Ms. Betancourt Coker's expertise has been honed over the course of two decades in education, focusing on creating inclusive and effective language learning environments.
Having initially joined the KISD in 2014 as the principal of the Summer Intervention Program, Ms. Betancourt Coker subsequently became an assistant principal between 2012 and 2018, where she demonstrated her leadership skills and commitment to student success. Ms. Betancourt Coker's dedication to education extends beyond K-12 institutions. From 2011 to 2013, she enriched future educators as an adjunct professor at the University of Texas (UT) at Arlington. Her experience at UT was deeply rewarding, allowing her to inspire future ESL and bilingual teachers with the same passion that drives her work every day.
Throughout her professional journey in the field, Ms. Betancourt Coker has been celebrated for her ability to foster educational environments that support students with low English proficiency and encourage cultural exchange and mutual learning among all students. During an earlier stage of her career, Ms. Betancourt Coker garnered experience as a customer service manager for Alfonso Marina and Co. between 2001 and 2004.
The foundation of Ms. Betancourt Coker's professional achievements lies in her robust academic background. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in international relations from Universidad de las Am ricas, A.C., where she focused on international politics, economics, and finance. Ms. Betancourt Coker also received a master's degree in educational leadership and policy studies from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2011. These academic accomplishments have shaped her approach to bilingual education and leadership within the school district.Looking ahead, Ms. Betancourt Coker aims to continue her academic pursuits by obtaining a doctorate and returning to higher education as a tenured faculty member. She remains committed to her field as a member of the National Association of Bilingual Educators. She is also a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society.
In light of her accomplishments, Ms. Betancourt Coker was recognized by the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association as the Assistant Principal of the Year for District 11 in 2015.
