Driven by his profound love for chemistry, Dr. Adcock embarked on his academic journey, earning a Bachelor of Science with first-class honors from James Cook University in 1980. His career as a research officer with Electrolytic Zinc Company for nine years saw him delve deep into hydrometallurgy and electrowinning research. In 1990, he joined the Pasminco Research Centre as a senior electrochemist and metallurgist for the Hydrometallurgical Processing Group, where he became a subject matter expert and project leader for metallurgical and membrane electrolytic projects. His thirst for knowledge led him to earn a PhD in chemistry from Western Sydney University. He further honed his skills at companies such as 3M, Hydromet Corporation, and Australian National University, where he conducted solar cell research and development.

Dr. Adcock, backed by his extensive knowledge, has continued his research and teaching at various institutions. He is a seasoned chemistry educator and researcher, excelling as the principal scientist for PalaTeck Scientific, LLC, and as a senior chemistry lecturer at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. His reputation for industry excellence in the fields of electrochemistry and metallurgy is well-established, with significant contributions such as the development of a morphology classification system for zinc deposits by plant operators and collaborations with professional organizations on patentability issues. These include electrochemical polarization measurement techniques, conductive polymers, and proton-blocking efficiency of ion exchange membranes for high-intensity zinc electrowinning applications.

Along with other industry scholars, Dr. Adcock has contributed to multiple articles in professional journals, including the Journal of Applied Electrochemistry, the Journal of Physical Chemistry, the Journal of the Electrochemical Society, and the Journal of the American Chemical Society. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, he aligns himself with the aforementioned organizations, as well as the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum, and the Royal Australian Chemical Institute. In conjunction with his professional affiliations, Dr. Adcock is a catechist in the Roman Catholic Church.
