Gwendolyn D. Worthy Celebrated for Dedication as an Advocate for Military Veterans

PORTLAND, OR, January 31, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gwendolyn D. Worthy has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. Ms. Worthy, a proud U.S. Air Force veteran, has dedicated her career to advocacy work for veterans. She currently serves as the national commander for the National Association for Black Veterans (NABVETS), a position she has held since 2022. Her involvement with NABVETS began in 2015 when she was inspired by the dedicated veteran service officers she met. Ms. Worthy started as a deputy commander, and through hard work and leadership, she was promoted to vice commander. She eventually became a commander and a region commander for Region I in Portland, Oregon, overseeing an extensive area from Alaska to Hawaii.

Ms. Worthy has made significant strides in establishing a website for the organization and formalizing it through legal means. She takes pride in the coherence among her chapters and their adeptness at communicating through various platforms such as social media, literature, and video meetings. Her commitment and impact were further recognized when she was appointed to the National Command Council, which operates at a national level. Even while pursuing her Doctorate in Business Administration in organizational management and leadership, Ms. Worthy was elected as the national commander.

Prior to her current role with NABVETS, Ms. Worthy served as a support service specialist at Bonneville Power Administration in Portland from 2015 to 2018. Her career also includes significant military experience with the U.S. Air Force, where she honed her skills and developed a deep understanding of advocacy work for veterans.

Ms. Worthy's educational background is extensive and impressive. She earned a Bachelor of business administration from Warner Pacific University in Portland in 2009 before completing a Master of Science in organizational management and leadership two years later from the same university. She is pursuing a Doctorate in Business Administration in organizational management and leadership. Additionally, she holds journeyman certifications from the U.SU.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Defense.

Despite facing challenges and rejections early in her life, Ms. Worthy used these experiences as opportunities for growth. She credits her mother for unknowingly preparing her for success by involving her in activities such as the theater, piano, dancing, ballet, and art classes.

In addition to her professional achievements, Ms. Worthy is actively involved with several civic-minded organizations, including the African American Resource Group, Pluralism Council,, including the African American Resource Group, Pluralism Council and the NAACP. Her contributions have been recognized with numerous awards, such as the Pioneer in the Trades Award from Women in the Trades, the Professional Excellence Award from the June Key Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, and the Torch Bearer Award from The Oregon Tradeswoman.

Outside of her career, Ms. Worthy enjoys do-it-yourself projects, interior design and architecture. Looking ahead to the future, she aims to establish an inspiring model that other organizations can emulate. She also envisions spearheading efforts to provide housing and raise awareness about the importance of trade professions alongside traditional college education. Ms. Worthy recognizes the significance of crucial occupations such as plumbing and electricity in our society.
