He is also responsible for setting the digital strategy for learning and development in collaboration with providers to enhance programs, and he oversees instructional design methodologies.

Additionally, Mr. Kern proudly co-authored an AI for Education Program in partnership with the University of Wisconsin Department of Continuing studies and delivers presentations nationwide.
Prior to accepting his current appointment, Mr. Kern thrived as the director of learning products and services at the Center for Professional and Executive Development from 2022 to 2023.

Before joining the organization, he held a series of roles at WPS Health Solutions, including director of operational training, quality management and government audit, as well as the manager of operational training and document management from 2015 to 2022. During his tenure, he consolidated three training teams into one cohesive group, successfully launching three government contracts and training over 1,000's of individuals within compressed time frames to exceed government requirements in preparation for contract start dates. Mr. Kern counts this milestone as one of his proudest professional achievements.

Mr. Kern's earlier career includes significant contributions at Ascensus LLC, where he was the manager of resource development from 2012 to 2015 and the education product manager from 2009 to 2012. His work involved managing national client training programs, providing compliance services, facilitating national educational programs and overseeing educational matters related to individual retirement accounts IRAs. Mr. Kern initiated his corporate career as a senior training consultant at CUNA Mutual Group in 2004 where he created digital assets and e-learning programs for IRAs through 2009.

Before transitioning into corporate roles, Mr. Kern dedicated ten years to K–12 education. He started as a first and second-grade teacher before becoming a technology integrator, partnering with other faculty members to integrate innovative technology into their curricula. Additionally, Mr. Kern thrived as an adjunct professor at Edgewood College, where he taught preservice teachers about technology and curriculum to ensure compliance with Wisconsin technical standards for educators.

Mr. Kern's academic credentials include a Bachelor of Science in elementary education with a minor in psychology from Winona State University. He subsequently pursued graduate studies and earned a Master of Science in curriculum and instruction with a focus on educational technology and communication from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Throughout his career, he has earned numerous certifications to bolster his profile in learning innovation including the Canvas certified educator certification from Instructure Inc., the Generative AI business sprint from MIT Sloan Executive Education and several others related to change management and executive leadership from the Center for Professional and Executive Development at the prestigious Wisconsin School of Business.

In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Kern actively seeks opportunities for civic engagement. He volunteered as a bingo caller at Villa at Middleton Village from 2019 to 2020 and has served as an advisory board member for the Quality Assurance and Training Connection in Nashville since 2021. Additionally, Mr. Kern's dedication to education will be recognized with an Excellence in Education Award at the Education 2.0 Conference in 2025.
