His career began with mandatory military service at F2 Hägernäs in Sweden from 1973 to 1974. Following this, he joined the Water Resources Department at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, where he engaged in pioneering research on heat storage in aquifers. This early work laid the foundation for his future endeavors in mathematical research.

After completing his doctoral studies, Dr. Kinnmark served as a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Notre Dame from 1984 to 1986. He then transitioned to a professorship on campus, where he taught until 1989. Although teaching was not his primary passion, this period allowed him to refine his research skills and contribute to academia through various publications.

In 1989, Dr. Kinnmark embarked on a new path as a freelance translator, specializing in technical translation from English to Swedish. His expertise in this area was bolstered by his comprehensive education and experience in both Sweden and the U.S. Dr. Kinnmark continued this work until his retirement in 2016, after which he pursued genealogical research as an independent researcher until 2024.

Dr. Kinnmark's academic journey includes a master's degree in engineering physics from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in 1978, followed by a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy in civil engineering from Princeton University in 1982 and 1984, respectively. His time at Princeton University was particularly influential, as he developed existing mathematical models and explored numerical methods for solving differential equations. Dr. Kinnmark notably received a Hesselgren Honor Stipend from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in 1979 and a Wallace Memorial Honorific Fellowship from Princeton University in 1983.

Among his various accomplishments, Dr. Kinnmark published several influential articles on one-step integration methods and a book, "The Shallow Water Wave Equations: Formulation, Analysis and Application." Looking ahead, Dr. Kinnmark plans to delve deeper into genealogical research, uncovering family connections that pique his interest.
