WILLIAMSVILLE, NY, February 03, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Susan Mondschien Leist with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Susan Mondschien Leist celebrates many years' experience in her professional network and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Growing up, Dr. Leist was surrounded by educators and musicians. Her mother, an exceptionally talented music teacher and musician, inspired her and her siblings to follow in her footsteps. Although she initially pursued a music major, she found that she enjoyed literature more and became an English major. After earning a Bachelor of Science in education from West Virginia University at a young age, Dr. Leist pursued a Master of Arts through her alma mater and began her career as an assistant professor at Lehigh Carbon Community College.
Over the years, Dr. Leist expanded her professional experiences as a teacher at Richlands High School and an instructor and assistant professor at Bluefield State College. After a divorce, she went to Buckingham County High School near Charlottesville, VA. She remained dedicated to continued education, earning an EdD from the University of Virginia. In the following years, she grew from strength to strength through roles of increasing responsibility at Buffalo State University, a part of the State University of New York, where she achieved full professorship and then was named a Distinguished Teaching Professor, the highest rank and honor granted by the SUNY system. An accomplished educator with decades of experience, Dr. Leist has been retired for over a decade. However, if Buffalo State University requires a professor, she will teach for a semester or conduct workshops for graduate courses.
Driven by a deep sense of responsibility, Dr. Leist has always been at the forefront of community service. She has aligned herself with several academic organizations, including the National Council of Teachers of English and the Modern Language Association. In addition to her professional and educational endeavors, she has dedicated herself to her community as a volunteer tutor at GiGi's Playhouse and as a member of the Board of Just Buffalo Literary Center.
Dr. Leist's professional journey is marked by numerous accolades and recognitions. Her vast knowledge has led her to author multiple publications, including "Writing to Teach: Writing to Learn in Higher Education" and "A Nurturing Blight: How the One-Room School Experience Can Inform Modern Educators." She was honored for innovative excellence in teaching, learning, and technology in 1999 and won the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching from the State University of New York in 2001. Her career is filled with highlights, but she takes the most pride in raising her three children alone, becoming a full professor at Buffalo State University, and a Distinguished Teaching Professor of the State University of New York.
