Dr. Zhao is a distinguished professional in the field of polymer and textile science, currently serving as the senior research and development director and chief scientist at Zhejiang Baihao Industry & Trade Co. Ltd. since 2023. In this role, he organizes research and development activities, conducts projects with customers and oversees planning, project management and production. His nearly two decades of experience in developing products for surgical and medical applications have been instrumental in advancing the field, with his team responsible for creating products that are widely used today.

Prior to his current position, Dr. Zhao was a principal engineer and scientist at Berry Global Inc. from 2017 to 2022, where he led global platform research and directed various projects. Before that, he held a similar role at Polymer Group Inc., focusing on global growth and innovation from 2015 to 2017. From 2011 to 2015, he served as a principal engineer at Polymer Group Inc., specializing in product development. His earlier career includes roles such as director of technology and business development at Biax-Fiberfilm from 2010 to 2011, senior design associate at Ahlstrom from 2007 to 2010 and senior research and development scientist at Ahlstrom from 2005 to 2007.

Dr. Zhao worked as a director of research and development at Biax-Fiberfilm from 2000 to 2005, following a position as a research assistant at TANDEC, University of Tennessee from 1996 to 2000. He started his career as a chemist at China Textile Academy from 1995 to 1996. Throughout his professional journey, he has developed expertise in microfiber, fiber spinning, film extrusion and the development of these materials for medical applications. His contributions have been recognized through memberships in the American Fiber Society, the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists, and the American Society of Plastic Engineers.

Dr. Zhao's academic journey laid a strong foundation for his professional achievements. He earned a doctorate in polymer and textile science with a focus on nonwoven technologies from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 2001. He also holds a Master of Science in textile science from the same institution, completed in 1998, and another Master of Science in chemistry from Beijing Institute of Clothing Technology in 1992. His academic pursuits began with an associates degree in analytical chemistry. He attributes his success to the support of his colleagues and mentors who have encouraged him throughout his career, helping him become the trustworthy professional that he is today.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dr. Zhao has made significant contributions through publications such as "Polymer Distribution during Melt Blowing PP/PET," published in the Journal of Applied Polymer Science in 2002, and "High Throughput Bicomponent Microfiber Production," presented at the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom in 2003. He has also been involved in civic activities, such as creating a group for microfiber nanofiber professionals and helping others improve their English skills.

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Zhao enjoys spending time with his family, traveling and exploring the outdoors, often drawing inspiration from observing the microscopic aspects of nature. As a cancer survivor, he is committed to maintaining his health while using his knowledge to help medical professionals develop new products for the market. He is dedicated to making meaningful contributions both within his field and beyond.
