Ms. Shendy has established a distinguished career in law enforcement. Since 2023, she has been a police lieutenant at Case Western Reserve University, Division of Public Safety, in Cleveland. Before being acquired by Case Western Reserve University, Ms. Shendy was appointed by Governor DeWine as the inaugural director of the Office of Law Enforcement Recruitment in Ohio, from 2020 to 2023. This position allowed her to influence recruitment strategies and policies across the state. Her leadership and vision were instrumental in shaping the office's direction during its formative years.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Shendy was a law enforcement training officer with the Ohio Attorney General's Office between 2016 and 2020. Her tenure there was marked by her commitment to upholding justice and ensuring public safety through training and education. Before this, she served with the Copley Police Department from 2008 to 2023, where she honed her skills and developed a deep understanding of community policing.
Ms. Shendy's educational background laid a strong foundation for her career achievements. She earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice with a minor in juvenile delinquency from Kent State University in 2006 and a master's degree in criminal justice with a minor in global issues from Kaplan University in 2012. Ms. Shendy's academic pursuits were complemented by obtaining an Ohio Peace Officer Training Certificate, which further solidified her expertise in law enforcement.
Throughout her career, Ms. Shendy has been recognized for her contributions and leadership. In 2022, she was honored among the 40 Under 40 by the International Association of Chiefs of Police, notably being the only Arab-American woman on the list. She also received other accolades, including the Case Western Reserve Diversity Champion Award in 2023 and being named Best of Arab Americans by the Young Arab Americans of Cleveland Professional Network in 2024. Additionally in 2024, she received the 40 Under 40 Award from the Arab America Foundation.
Ms. Shendy attributes much of her success to her culture, religion, and her parents, whom she describes as humble, kind-hearted and hardworking individuals. Their influence has shaped her values and work ethic, guiding her throughout her career and personal endeavors.
