AUSTIN, TEXAS, February 19, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Wm. Roger Louis, historian, distinguished professor of history and Kerr Chair with The University of Texas, was selected by Marquis Who's Who for a prominent feature in the Austin, Texas, regional edition of Forbes.

An internationally known scholar in the spheres of British studies and the history of the British Empire, Mr. Louis has accrued more than 50 years of professional excellence. Drawing upon a formative passion for education and discovering his interest in the British Empire during his graduate studies, Mr. Louis' expertise has since been disseminated in lectures, papers and books worldwide.

After serving as an assistant professor and associate professor of history at Yale University between 1962 and 1970, Mr. Louis joined The University of Texas at Austin as a professor of history in 1970. He subsequently began serving as the Director of British Studies at the university in 1975. Following many years of faithful service to the university, he was named the Kerr Chair of English History and Culture in 1985, where he continues to serve today. In addition, Mr. Louis has been recognized as a Distinguished Professor of History since 1998.

Adjacent to his primary teaching appointments, Mr. Louis has lectured extensively at a myriad of academic institutions on a global scale, including the University of Oxford, the London School of Economics, Nottingham University, the British Academy, the University of Connecticut, Rice University and the University of Ohio. Furthermore, Mr. Louis served as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the American University in Cairo, Egypt, and taught overseas in Tel Aviv, Israel. Impressively, he was a trustee of the British Empire Museum between 2005 and 2013 and notably served as the president of the American Historical Association in 2001.

Lending his expertise to the written word, Mr. Louis has authored and/or edited approximately 40 books since the 1960s, including such works as "Germany's Lost Colonies" in 1967, "British Empire in the Middle East" in 1984, "The Oxford History of the Twentieth Century" in 1998 and "Serendipitous Adventures with Britannia" in 2019, among others. Moreover, Mr. Louis serves as the Editor-in-Chief of "The Oxford History of the British Empire." To attest to his success, he was named Professor of the Year by The University of Texas in 2009 and earned the Royal Society of Literature Benson Medal in 2013.

While preparing for his career, Mr. Louis attended the University of Oklahoma, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in 1959. He subsequently received a Master of Arts from Harvard University in 1960 and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Oxford in England in 1962. Attaining much acclaim during his early teaching years, he was given an honorary Doctor of Letters from the University of Oxford in 1979.

Mr. Louis is an affiliate of such organizations as the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Historical Association, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Royal Historical Society and the Texas Institute of Letters, among others. In 2010, he was appointed to the John W. Kluge Center Chair for Countries and Cultures of the North at the Library of Congress.
