He earned a Doctor of Philosophy in cancer biology from the University of Colorado's Anschutz Medical Campus in 2020 and holds a Master of Science in biochemistry and molecular biology from Georgetown University, which he obtained in 2012.

Throughout his career, Dr. Zhou has made significant contributions to cancer research, authoring over 20 scholarly papers published in prestigious journals such as BioRxiv, the Journal of Experimental Medicine, the American Society for Clinical Investigation and the American Association for Cancer Research. His work has garnered recognition through several National Institutes of Health awards, including the K00 phase award for "A mechanistic dissection of the role of Eya3 in breast cancer metastasis" in 2020 and the F99 phase award for the same project in 2018. In addition to his published works, Dr. Zhou has served as a reviewer for the Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute since 2022 and an editorial board member for the Translational Oncology Journey since 2020.

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Zhou enjoys traveling, which provides him with inspiration and new perspectives that enrich his work.
