As the co-vice chair at Sanford Heisler Sharp McKnight LLP since 2024, he plays a pivotal role in training young lawyers while evaluating potential whistleblower cases. Mr. McKnight's responsibilities extend to liaising with government officials from agencies, such as the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Federal Trade Commission, and the U.S. Department of Justice regarding ongoing investigations.

Before his present title, Mr. McKnight served as a partner at his firm from 2014 to 2024 and as a managing member between 2009 and 2014, which was originally known as McKnight & Kennedy LLC before joining Sanford Heisler LLP. During his tenure as a partner, he honed his expertise in whistleblower cases, particularly those involving violations of the Trade Agreement Act against major corporations such as Corporate Express, Staples and Office Depot. Mr. McKnight's practice in this area has grown significantly, establishing him as a leading figure in whistleblower litigation.

Mr. McKnight practiced at Ashcraft & Gerel LLP from 1982 to 2009. During the latter portion of his career with the firm, he focused much of his time on representing railroad workers under the Federal Employees Liability Act and handling cases related to railroad injuries and employment discrimination. Earlier, Mr. McKnight garnered expertise as an associate at Reed Smith LLP between 1980 and 1982, where he practiced labor and employment law. Seeking more active trial experience, he transitioned to Ashcraft & Gerel LLP in 1982.

Commencing his legal career, Mr. McKnight clerked for Judge William C. Pryor on the D.C. Superior Court from 1978 to 1979 and the D.C. Court of Appeals between 1979 and 1980. These early experiences laid a strong foundation for his subsequent legal endeavors.

Mr. McKnight completed his secondary education at Georgetown Preparatory School in 1971. Subsequently, he received a Bachelor of Arts in public policymaking from Brown University in 1975 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Pennsylvania in 1978.

Besides his full-time commitments, Mr. McKnight is actively involved as the chair of the Anti-Fraud Coalition. In recognition of his professional excellence, he has been honored with several accolades, such as Super Lawyers and MVP in the Whistleblower Area by Law360.

Looking ahead, Mr. McKnight plans to focus on addressing issues at the intersection of technology, machine learning, artificial intelligence and fraud within Silicon Valley, Corporate America and the banking sector. He aims to assist government stakeholders in defending against new forms of fraud that have emerged with technological advancements.
